22: Young Arthur By Robert D. San Souci
23: Summary King Uther Pendragon finally has a son named Arthur. After he has his son, his wife dies and old foes rise up to rebel against his rule. Merlin the magician takes Arthur to safety after Uther puts down the rebellion but dies from poison. Arthur grows up in a wealthy family. He grows up and is tall, handsome, and quick-witted. His older brother, Sir Kay, teaches him how to use a sword. One day Arthur, his brother, and his father go to a tournament. Arthur forgets Kay's sword and sees a sword in a stone. He pulls it out and gives it to Kay. Kay declares that he is king for the sword says that whoso pulls the sword from the stone is the rightful king. Merlin asks Kay to do it again but Kay can't do it. He asks Arthur to do and Arthur does so Merlin calls him the rightful heir and king. Reflection This story, Young Arthur, relates to my cultural values because Arthur is obedient to Sir Kay just like I am to anybody who asks something of me. Also Arthur respects and loves his parents. He is honest when asked something. In these ways I am like Arthur.I have a story where I was playing marbles with my brother one time. He made me mad and I lost control and took a trash can and slammed it on his head. Arthur, when Kay was teaching him the art of fighting would wound Kay, Kay would call for the physician to fix him. Arthur never lost control when Kay wounded him and wasn't allowed to call for the physician. Arthur had great self-control.
