1: Dwight D. Eisenhower was born October 14, 1890, in Denison, Texas. He graduated from West Point in 1915. He distinguished himself in World War I and II and advanced rapidly through the ranks. President Truman made him chief of staff in 1945 and supreme commander of NATO in 1951. Eisenhower was elected president on the Republican ballot with running mate Richard Nixon in 1952 and again in 1956.
