FC: Low Community Health
Community Health In New York is low. | This tends to pile on in the southern parts of the Bronx.
Mostly health is low because of the way the city built many polluting plants nearby. These pollute the air and cause illnesses like asthma. | There are also many major highways that cross through. Another issue would be the low income in these areas.
Notice how the south of the Bronx seems to have Virtually no type of efficient income.
An 30 million gallon oil spill years ago left Newtown Creek with tons of oil and a very unhealthy communty. Highways and CSO's are just two of the polluters to this highly toxic area with the countries most polluted living conditions.
A relationship between the amount of obesity and the amount of exercise can be seen in Brooklyn. Some students that live around brooklyn may be at risk to these health problems because they live near major polluters and wouldn't want to play all day outside if the air is polluted.
These maps show that asthma in students may be related to the nearby Highways and TRI's.
Newtown Creek is another example of a polluted area with the majority of the same polluters.
But its worst polluter is the CSO's.
The Black dots on the above map show the location of all of the CSO's the empty out all the sewage of NYC into the Creek.
Another polluter would be the smokers. The darker areas on the map show the areas with a higher amount of heavy smokers or people that smoke more than 10 cigarettes a day.
