BC: I would like to thank the parent volunteers that attended the field trip. We all had a great time. All photographs in this book were taken by the students. They did a great job. All the students worked together to create the text in each picture. They sure do know a lot about animals and their habitats.
FC: First Grade Field Trip to The Zoo. Ms. Wieser's First Grade Class 2011-2012
1: The Lion A lion is wild and lives in Africa. It is hot and dry in Africa. A lion has a mane and golden brown coat to protect himself and blend into tall grass. He likes to hunt for his food. A lion eats meat like zebra, gazelll, cubs and cape buffalo.
2: The Giraffe A giraffe munches on leaves from trees and grass because they have a long neck and tongue. A giraffe lives in Africa where it is hot and dry. Their habitat has to have trees and grass. They protect themselves with their horns, back legs, and their size.
3: Sometimes they scamper and gather in groups to travel. They get water from a stream, lake, or river. They can survive without a lot of water.
4: The Bear A bear devours fish, nuts, berries, and meat. A bear is a scavenger, they devour leftovers and don't kill their own food. A bear needs water and protection. It's protection is a cave and fur. A bear uses it's fur to camouflage into grass and rocks. He is big and uses his claws, sharp teeth, and stand up to protect himself.
5: The Penquin A penquin lives in Antartica where it is very cold. To move around they can slide on their bellies and swim. They swim underwater to get their food (fish). They have eggs. The dad has to hold the egg on his feet to keep it warm. The mom scampers back to the ocean to get food. The mom vomits into the babies mouth. To protect themselves from Orca's and seal's, they swim very fast.
6: The Elephant A elephant lives in the Aftrican savanah. It is hot and dry. They drink and eat from their trunk. They gobble grass. It can use it's trunk to throw dirt on itself to keep cool, to protect themselves from the sun, and insect bites. Elephants defend themselves and their babies by using their tusks. They also defend themselves with their trunk, noise, and size.
7: The Cheetah A cheetah lives in Africa. It is hot and dry. The cheetah uses it's spots to hide in the shadows. It hides so it can hunt. It hunts gazelles, antelope, and zebras. They protect babies from lions. Their eyes are like sunglasses and reflects the light which helps them see good. Cheetahs can run very fast but only for a short time. They can climb a tree to protect themselves.
