2: The first Vatican council was in Vatican City at Saint Peter’s Basilica. Pope Pius IX held the Council because of the rising problems of influence of rationalism, liberalism, and materialism. It began on December 8th 1869 to discuses a majority of problems. They increased and exaltation of the catholic faith and religion. They also wrote a new Dogma, it was Dei Filius. Dei Filius expressed fundamental opposition to rationalism, the idea that matters of revelation should, in any way, be subject to the judgment of reason and logic. It also denied the idea that human reason could in any way acquire religious or ethical knowledge. The first Vatican council ended on October 20th 1870. Over 744 people attended it.
