FC: Flat Stanley visits Pittsburgh

Hi class! I am in Pennsylvania visiting the Hinton's. Boy, this family sure is busy! As soon as I arrived in the mail, we were off. Maggie let me ride up front with her and made sure I buckled up. Safety first!

 First stop, Subway!

 We had some great subs!

Next, we zoomed off to drop Maggie at dance class. Those moves were hard!

While Maggie was at dance, Olivia, Stephanie, and I headed over to TJ Maxx and Giant Eagle. MMMMM, Pink Lady apples. Stephanie even let us get a Lego set at TJ's! So far, I am loving Pittsburgh!

When we got home again I helped Olivia study for her science test AND study her script for Beauty and the Beast.

Later that evening, Stephanie took me to karate with her. She is getting ready to test for her third degree blackbelt. HI-----YA!

In the morning, I helped the girls get ready for school.

Even though the girls wanted me to go to school with them, I decided to stay home for Cyber School with Stephanie. It was awesome! I love American History.

This is our trip to Sarris Candies. Not only do they have candy but they have the BEST ice cream in all of Pittsburgh!

There are two inclines in Pittsburgh. Before mass transit was readily available, many Pittsburghers used these to get up and down Mt. Washington to get to work in the Steel Mills This is the Duquesne Incline and it is still functional!

This is the incline in action!

Hey look kids, it's Heinz Field! Home of the Steelers! | And here is the awesome view of Pittsburgh! This is the point where the Ohio river starts. On the right of the city is the Monongehela river. On the left side is the Allegheny. Where the two meet is the mighty Ohio.

Down the Ohio a hop, skip, and a jump you will find the Carnegie Science Center. So named for Andrew Carnegie, the great Steel Mogul.

Here you see PNC Park. Unfortunately, the Pirates aren't nearly as good as the Steelers.

This view is of the Allegheny River. They don't call Pittsburgh the "City of Bridges" for nothing! The area in the forefront is called the 'Point." Usually there is a beautiful fountain running but it has been closed for repairs. Just behind that in the green area is where Fort Pitt once stood. As you can see, the "Point" was a very strategic location for the English! No wonder George Washington fought so hard for this area!

This view is looking 'down' the Ohio. The island in the distance is called Brunot Island. In the early 1800's it was inhabited by a local family. Unbeknownst to many, this is actually where Lewis and Clark began their journey west. They stopped at Brunot island and visited with the family. The keel boat the pair used was even built in Pittsburgh. Hey, did you know a keel boat is flat bottomed boat? Flat, like ME!

One evening we stopped at Jerome Bettis' grille! Go Steelers!

This picture is especially for Spencer's Dad. He is a CRAZY Steelers fan! He told Stephanie to make sure she took me to the field and I can tell you, it is AWESOME!

This is Cecil Park. The girls took me here for some fun after school. Very nice park!

That Olivia sure is good at climbing! I think she is part monkey!

A trip to Pittsburgh isn't complete unless you visit the original Primanti Bros. sandwich shop in the Strip District. This eatery was commonly frequented by people who worked in the steel mills along the Allegheny River. Now, people from all over the city come to enjoy the most delicious sandwiches in the city! French fries and cole slaw ON the sandwich? Steak and Cheese for me! Delicious! You may have seen this shop featured on the Food Network. Yep, that's how famous it is!

This is another fabulous eatery in the Strip District. DeLuca's was featured on Man vs. Food and I know why! Their dishes are enormous AND delicious.

Also in the Strip is Wholey's, the best place in the city for fresh seafood! Well, as fresh as one can get it in Pittsburgh! Stephanie picked up some Chilean Sea Bass for dinner. It was sooooo good! And who wouldn't love a place where they play live accordian music!? Definitely a Pittsburgh tradition!

Our last stop in the Strip was at Feinberg's. This store has all thing Pittsburgh! The nice lady at the counter let me get my picture made with her. Pittsburghers REALLY love their sports teams!

My trip to Pittsburgh was fantastic! The Hinton's really showed me a good time AND I learned a lot about the History of Pittsburgh. I really missed Spencer though and I'm looking forward to getting back to Kansas. I hope you enjoy my book!
