FC: German Immigration
1: Germans immigrated to America from the early 1700's to late 1800's
2: In the early 1700’s Germans were fleeing their homeland to escape violence. Germany was constantly being attacked by other nearby nations. Robbery and violence was a major problem. Entire towns would be burnt down to the ground. | In the early 1800’s modernization force Germans out of small family owned businesses. Immigration to the United States was becoming cheaper and faster.
3: "Oh God, I was sick. Everybody was sick. I don't even want to remember anything about that old boat. One night I prayed to God that it would go down because the waves were washing over it. I was that sick, I didn't care if it went down or not. And everybody else was the same way."
4: In the U.S most Germans lived on the countryside. Large numbers of German farmers could be found in the Midwest and inTexas. | Only about 2/5 Germans lived in small cities
5: Germans would cluster together to form communities, know as" Miniature- Germany" towns. | Very few German women were found working in a factory, or as a clerk. | Not all Germans got alone in a large goups dividions among Germans seemed more significan between German AMericans and other group.
