FC: Travel the World with Great Books
Our Favorite City. | I have traveled the world. I have also seen a bit of outer space, been beneath the surface of the earth, and deep in the ocean. I have spent time in major cities, country farms, high in the mountains, and on an island in the South Seas. | I have read books as long as I can remember. By the time I was in third grade, I was making weekly trips to the library and checking out five or six books at a time. I became a great detective.
I learned an insane amount of knowledge just from reading the great children's mystery series. After the Boxcar Children found their grandfather, they had fabulous, mysterious adventures all over! While enjoying Trixie Belden, I felt like I was a part of the secret society called Bob-whites of the Glen! There were many mystery series, but the greatest of all was Nancy Drew. She was tough and smart. She got to do everything and traveled everywhere.
"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page." - Saint Augustine
"Life is a journey not a destination." - RALPH WALDO EMERSON
SEEING THE WORLD ONE CITY AT A TIME. | Three sisters taught me about the drama of life in 19th century England.
Our bags are full. | I saw journeys unimaginable through the eyes of writers like Jules Verne.
 Let the journey begin
LIFE IS A JOURNEY | I will admit that I didn't always embrace the books that are considered the classics of literature on the first go around. Sometimes it took a bit longer. As an adult, I make it my policy to give these classics another chance. I am rarely disappointed. I wish that I had been more receptive to them back then. I think that they can be life changing.
"To travel is to live." -Hans Christian Andersen
"A travel adventure has no substitute. It is the ultimate experience, your one big opportunity for flair." -Massow | Great books are not all "old" books. Great books are written all the time. They are the classics of the future. I love to read newer books, as well as older ones. They take me to even more unimaginable worlds. As society progresses, so do the limits of our writers' imaginations.
 BON VOYAGE | HogwHo
Discovering new places. | Today, a young person can literally grow up with the characters in a series of books. An adult can, too! | Although the public raved over Harry Potter, two books were already published before I was really aware of their existence. I thought they were pretty good, but then the third book came out and I was truly hooked. Before each new book in the series was published I read all of the books already written. This never got old.
