 The Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal is one of the most famous, oldest and mesmerizing building's in the world. It's been standing for more that two hundred years and it's story is still told today.
This is the story..... Once there was a emperor. This emperor was at war with another country, but the day as it was close to the end a dreadful thing happened. The emperors wife was accidentally shot by one of the soldiers on the enemy's side. Instead of being happy about beating the man who shot his wife, the king mourned the death of her. After not coming out of his room for eight day's the emperor decided to take anything happy away from North India.
So all the popular music, public amusements, perfumes, cosmetics, jewelry, and brightly colored clothes were forbidden. Offenders, no matter what their age or rank, no matter the innocence of their games, were arraigned before a court tribunal; if their behavior was judged disrespectful to the memory of the queen, they were executed. Shah Jahan exchanged his royal cape for white robes. His subjects followed his example. Before long the entire country was dressed in white.
he mourned her for almost ten years. Half a year after the queen's death, her corpse was brought from Burhanpur to the city of Agra, south of Delhi.A few moths later the work began on the construction of a tomb that would be the most resplendent monument ever built by man for a woman. The principal mausoleum was completed in 1648 and the surrounding buildings and garden were finished five years later. Emperor Shah Jahan himself described the Taj in these words:
Should guilty seek asylum here, Like one pardoned, he becomes free from sin. Should a sinner make his way to this mansion, All his past sins are to be washed away. The sight of this mansion creates sorrowing sighs; And the sun and the moon shed tears from their eyes. In this world this edifice has been made; To display thereby the creator's glory.
After the Taj Mahal was built the emperor ordered all the men who helped construct and build it to come to his palace at once. The emperor then cut off all the hands of the builders so as to not let them construct a building like the Taj. And ordered all the architects who designed the building to be poked in the eyes so as not to design a building like the Taj.
Then when the emperor died he was buried in a tomb next to his wife where their spirits would then meet and live happily again.
