3: The PTSA treated teachers and staff to a delicious Welcome Back Breakfast August 15, before students even came back to school. The PTSA worked throughout the summer to get ready for this school year. Many thanks go to all of our PTSA cooks. | PTSA back to school breakfast | August 15, 2011 | JLMS Students = 1,555

4: Orientation day was a busy one for the PTSA. There was lots of excitement from the incoming 6th graders who got the chance to explore their new school. The PTSA was there helping everyone show their school spirit by selling John Long Shirts and other supplies. We were happy to have 300 people sign up for this year's PTSA. | Orientation Day | August 23, 2011

5: The PTSA Back to School Dance was Thursday, September 1. The cafeteria was full of dancing shoes that afternoon as the kids showed off their dance moves. Thank you to our PTSA chaperons, and special thanks to Peggy D'Alessandro for some wonderful pictures! | Back to school dance | September 1, 2011

6: Mrs. Dykes was the lucky teacher who's name was drawn in September from all the teacher PTSA members to win a beautiful PTSA basket! | $250 Grant was given to the Trailblazer Teachers! The PTSA had a challenge to the teachers -- The team with 100% PTSA membership would be entered into a drawing for a $250 grant that could be used in their classrooms as needed. We were happy to announce the winning team was the Trailblazers! | Congratulations to our Student Membership Winner! The PTSA drew a name from our student PTSA members and Sydney, a 7th grader from the Trailblazer team, was the lucky winner of an Xtreme Adventure Family pack valued at $50! Congratulations Sydney! | Congratulations!

7: Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation reaching millions of Americans during the last week of October every year. By wearing red ribbons and participating in community anti-drug events, young people pledge to live a drug-free life. The PTSA was happy to award the Eagles Team with a special cookie party for having the most students hand in a signed Red Ribbon Week pledge form which was posted on the PTSA Website! | Thursday, September 22 was Open House! The PTSA wants to thank those who braved the monsoon at Open House. What a crazy night. We set up in the courtyard, battled a bad storm, took cover, then had to relocate to the cafeteria. The PTSA members who were able to find the General Assembly meeting approved the budget for this year. Many thanks to such a great group of people who give so much of their heart & soul to our organization! | Open house | september 22, 2011 | It's up to me to be drug free!

9: Pie & coffee for JLMS Teachers The PTSA treated teachers and staff with a delicious slice of pie for a holiday treat! | Teens for Jeans JLMS joined schools nationwide in Aeropostale's "Teens for Jeans" campaign to collect gently worn jeans to donate to homeless teens throughout the US. Ninety pairs of blue jeans were collected in January and February—Way to go John Long!! | PTSA gives back | reflections | Diversity means... | Next year's Reflections Theme is: “The Magic of a Moment. . .” | The PTSA Reflections Program provides opportunities for students to express themselves through the arts. Each year, students can compete in 6 categories: - Dance Choreography - Film/Video Production - Literature - Musical Composition - Photography - Visual Arts Congratulations to Isabella Fiorentino whose reflections project was chosen to go to district in Orlando!

10: Heart healthy fair | JLMS PTSA hosted its 2nd Annual Healthy Heart Fair in conjunction with the Ranch 5K & Family Run/Walk. There were lots of vendors with information, activities, and demonstrations focused on achieving & maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The 5K had over 200 runners, and the 1-mile family fun run was a popular event. Many thanks go to the volunteers who made this event possible. | january 21, 2012

11: Memorial Garden The school asked the PTSA to assist them in creating a Memory Garden to honor students and staff we have lost. The environmental committee outlined the garden and got to work. The tree, mulch and shrubs were donated by district, with the PTSA handling the man power. The PTSA will donate 2 stone benches and an archway entryway to be added to the garden. We will continue to plant more shrubs as they are donated. A donation was given to the school by a staff member to purchase a plaque.

12: Roundup Marketing The Roundup Carnival is the largest fund raiser for the JLMS PTSA. We marketed this event with several fliers, and distributed a special 5th Grade invitation to feeder schools. It was also advertised in the Meadow Pointe News Magazine, and calls went out on the school's automated system. One lucky student won 25 free tickets through a drawing of parent-signed Roundup forms

13: Armbands Armbands were sold the week before for $15, and at the door for $20. A total of 505 Armbands were sold and 22 armbands were given to ABC students. | Volunteers Although it was a struggle to get adult volunteers, we had lots of eager teens eager to earn hours. | $7,500 = Budget for Roundup $7,497 = Actual Expenses $10,000 = Income expected $18,199 = Actual Income A whopping $8,199 extra income!!!

18: Over 4,800 tickets were collected at the food booths. By 7:30, we were running low on about everything! PTSA earned over $650 between the vendors (Smoothie King, Bruster's, & Moes). | Roundup Carnival Food

19: Basket Drawings | The PTSA's baskets were amazing, and a popular stop at the Roundup. Basket ticket sales were $1100!

21: What a great night! There are so many things I want to thank each of you for individually. In the meantime, I just wanted to take a second to say thanks again to all of you and to your families for helping to make this such a great memory for the kids at John Long. I think tonight was a great success. Everyone really seemed to have a blast! Yay! We did it! Goodnight everyone! Peggy | thank you!

22: John Long PTSA Appreciates Teachers | and staff | Jessica lead the way for Teacher Appreciation Week in May. Mon: Coffee and donuts Tue: Jumbo paper clip with note, “JLMS staff really holds it together.” Wed: Bottle of water with label, “Thank you for quenching the thirst for knowledge.” Thu: Apples Fri: Lunch from Moe’s with a Cinco de Mayo theme | PTSA baskets for monthly Staff Award

23: PTSA sold spirit wear and pizza to excited incoming 6th graders and their parents. The cafeteria was filled with future longhorns, who were entertained by the JLMS Chorus and Drama Club. After an introduction by Principal Wolff, Peggy D'Alessandro gave an enthusiastic talk about the PTSA at John Long. At the General Assembly meeting, next year's board members were voted in with the exception of president — Rhonda will continue to lead until someone is found to fill that position. For her amazing leadership this year, Rhonda was presented a gift from the Board. "I just wanted to say thanks to all of you for the lovely gift last night. It totally caught me off guard!! I absolutely love that perfume!" | 6th Grade Curriculum Night | May 8, 2012

24: Because of the PTSA's successful year, we were able to give the school 2 Ipads and a check for $10,000 to be used for technology. The teachers showed their appreciation with a roaring standing ovation for our PTSA! | PTSA's Technology Gifts

25: PTSA Talent Show | June 1, 2012 | Our Judges | Angela Savinon, Dani Hernandez, Kim Newberry, Sharon Cypriano & Gini Pake had the toughest job! | Preparing Backstage | The PTSA Talent Show is such a fun way to end the year, and WOW, does JLMS have some talented students! We were all privileged to watch 14 incredible performances by students representing all grades. Many thanks go out to our judges, PTSA volunteers, as well as our entertaining host, Mr. Luck, and special thanks to Jessica McNatt for heading up the PTSA committee who made this special event happen!
