3: A dark windy night the funnel is moving through the city throwing debris everywhere. The twister lifts a car and throws it 50 feet away. This funnel is called a tornado. | 3

4: A tornado is a spinning funnel of air that destroys things that are in its path. A tornado can go up to twenty to fifty miles per hour. | There are about one thousand tornadoes each year.Tornadoes can skip around and destroy houses and leaving others untouched. | Twenty four tornadoes can occur each week. Tornadoes have the fastest winds on earth. | 4

6: Tornadoes disappear because they don't have enough strength. The stronger the updraft the stronger the storm. Multi-vortex tornadoes have several funnels. Dust devils are a different type of tornado. Tornadoes are produced by thunderstorms. Some tornadoes can even catch on fire | 6

8: Most tornadoes are located and occur in tornado alley. Scientists called meteorologists use Doppler radar to detect major storms that may produce tornadoes. T.Theodore Fujita created a device called the F-scale. This device will tell what the size of the tornado will be. Meteorologists use tools such as the anemometer. F-4 and F-5 tornadoes are responsible for 70% of deaths from tornadoes. Some people chase tornadoes,these people are called storm chasers. | 8

9: In 1947, 148 tornadoes hit 14 states in a three hour time span. 1,500 people were injured by the tornadoes. Meteorologists said that this is the largest number of tornadoes to hit in one place in the world. The worst tornado in US history was the Great Tri-state tornado. in 1925 IT devastated three states, killed 689 people and injured 2027 people. At times, the tornado was over a mile wide! | 9

10: This is what you do if there is a tornado. Go into the bathtub or basement. First get food and drinks plus a safety kit. Stay safe | 10

11: This is how a tornado is born; hot air with cold air going fast into each other. Then it makes a tornado. | 11
