1: Louis Sachar was born in East Meadow, NY on March 20th, 1957. His dad worked on the 78th floor of the Empire State Building, which inspired the Wayside School series.
2: Sachar would have orange fights with his friends in California. He first liked reading in high school, which led to writing.
3: Sachar's first inspirations were J.D. Saling and Kurt Vonnegut. He attended Antioch College in Ohio.
4: Sachar had a small career as a Fuller Brush Man. He also went to the University of California and majored in Economics.
5: Sachar helped teach a second grade class at Hillside Elementary School. The teaching also inspired the Wayside School series.
6: Sachar got another job in Connecticut at a sweater house. He went to law school and got his first Wayside School book published at a nearby publication place.
7: He did part-time legal work and wrote children's books at the same time. He finished law school in 1980 after clearing the Bar Exam.
8: Sachar's first book sold in 1989. His wife was a counselor, which inspired his book, There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom.
9: Sachar lives in Austin, TX. Whenever he wrote a new book, he never talked about it. Even with himself!
10: Sachar really likes to play bridge. He goes to bridge tournaments all around the world.
11: Sachar won the National Book Award. He also won the Bulletin Blue Book Award.
12: Sachar also won the Horn Book Fanfare Award for Holes. He also won the Publisher's Weekly Best Book of the Year.
13: His awards were for all of his books, except for the Horn Book Fanfare Award he got for Holes.

16: The Warden at the camp is looking for Kissin' Kate's jewels in the ground. The boys keep digging holes under the Warden's and Mr. Sir's supervision.
17: Some kids named X-Ray, Zero, Armpit, Squid, Magnet, and ZigZag are digging for this treasure with Stanley. Zero runs away to "God's Thumb".
18: Zero was sick from a drink called Sploosh and Stanley found him and carried him back to camp. You are going to have to read to find out if they find the treasure or not. Read Holes!
