2: -John F. Kennedy had just been assassinated and Johnson had to assume responsibility for the rest of '63. -1964, elected into office by his own right. -Landslide victory.
3: -Truman wanted to create the "Great Society". -Conflict in Vietnam still going strong with limited U.S. involvement. -Johnson must deal with all conflicts left behind by JFK. -Wanted to get U.S. more involved in Vietnam. -Poverty was also a big issue.
