1: Matthew C. Perry was born on April 10th 1794. he died on the year 1858 March 4th. He was the Commodore of the U.S. Navy who compelled the opening of Japan to the West with the Convention of Kanagawa in 1854.

3: When Matthew Perry first came to Japan He brought Steam ships with him. Japan had never seen steam boats so the first time they saw them, they thought it was a dragon breathing out gas.

5: Hoping to make two ports in Shimoda and Hakodate for American ships.
