BC: 15.PLO- Palestinian Liberation Organization; A political movement bringing Palestinian Arabs together trying to create the state of Palestine. The United Nations denied Palestine statehood which isn't what PLO wanted.

FC: Middle East Vocabulary | Matthew Bauske

1: Judaism- the monotheistic religion of the Jewish people originating off the Hebrew Bible. Abraham is known as the father of Judaism | Zionism- The Jewish party that works toward getting back their ‘homeland’, Israel. Zionism is a international movement to support modern Israel

2: Yom Kippur- A Jewish holiday; A religious fast day, referred to as the Day of Atonement. Most religions fast during certain parts of the year, for people of the Jewish faith they celebrate it as a holiday known as Yom Kippur | Ramadan- An Islamic holiday; a religious fast from sunrise to sunset in their ninth month. People of the Islamic faith celebrate the holiday Ramamdan

3: Christianity- The monotheistic religion based off the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and the Holy Bible. Christianity is split into two major sections, Catholic and Protestant | Islam- The monotheistic religion built on the Qur’an, which they believe is the word of their God, Allah. Islam has the most people of any religion in the world

4: Synagogue- The Jewish place of worship. Jewish people go to a synagogue for worship | Mosque- The Islamic place of worship. Islamic people go to a Mosque for worship

5: Sunni- The largest branch of the religion Islam. Sunni is one section that makes up the worlds largest religion, Islam | Shiite-The smaller branch of Islam. Shiite is a section of Islam does not believe in the same successors of Sunni

6: Terrorism- The use of violence for political or religious reasons. An example of terrorism is the attacks of 9/11 | Taliban- A Muslim group that took control of Afghanistan’s government in 1996. The Taliban took control of Afghanistan by force with use of weapons, terrorism.

7: al Qaeda- International terrorist group founded by Osama Bin Laden in the late 1980s. al Qaeda is a major threat to many nations security. | Palestinian- A group of Arabians that used to live in Palestine. Palestine was recently denied statehood by the United Nations

8: Arab- People that are living in the Middle East, Western Asia and Northern Africa. Arabs mainly speak Arabic and most are muslim | Bedouin- A nomadic culture on the Arabian Peninsula. The Bedouin people were early converts to Islam

9: Hijab- A scarf worn by Muslim women to cover their hair. Some laws in the Middle East are made to enforce women to wear the Hijab | Intifada- An uprising by Palestinian Arabs against Israel. Intifada has occurred in the late 80s and then again in 2000.

10: Hamas- A military Islamic political movement that is against the peace with Israel. The Hamas have been known to use terrorism. | Fundamentalism- The understanding of the basic principles of a religion. In the 20th century, Protestants emphasize The Holy Bible as fundamental to the Christian faith

11: Jihad- Jihad is the religious duties of all Muslims; Jihad is a struggle Muslims go through to protect Islam | OPEC- The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. The OPEC is an International group that decides the price of oil by limiting their supply

13: my original was 11 Pages as you can see. i just thought why not just add blank pages

14: then i thought, why not explain why all these blank pages are here

15: And the reason you have to read through all these pages is because i didnt feel like moving that last bit to pg 12

16: so yeah, there you have it

17: I really hope you enjoy my mixbook

18: I just finished it last minute and was jamming out to some good ole classic rock

19: i was finally done then i remembered we have to do an example sentence

20: i didnt think it would be this easy and quick to write those sentences

21: so i have no problem with adding 9 pages of writing. it was a fun assignment and i enjoyed learning about the Middle East!!
