I was going to America I packed all my things. Now I finally know why father had me studying English so I will know the language before we get to America. I packed clothing my prized possessions and all my pounds to trade for American currency. I will no longer live in Germany. I am a little sad about going to America because I will have to make all new friends. I do not think it will be hard though.

We drove though the farm land, mountains and the city until we reached the coast. We sold our Volkswagen to a car dealer who offered a generous price for it.

My father gave us our tickets to the boat and we gave them to the man and he told us where to go. The rooms where small. I placed my luggage on my bunk bed and the boat started.

The journey was very boring I played chess with my father most of the time. The only way to get fresh air was by going on the deck that was freezing only a small part of it was designated to passengers.

After a long journey to America we where there a large statue was seen in the distance it looked to be made of copper. We where at Ellis island groups of people were given dormitories. When we got ours we settled in to the room. Quickly we where taken out for our health exams to see if we carried any diseases. It took all day long because of the lines.

We where woken at the crack of dawn. I changed into my clothing and was led to the dinning hall for breakfast. I ate quickly and took math and language arts tests. The next day my family got our results and we all can go to America. We went to the 'kissing post' and caught a barge to New York.

My family all got hot dogs and sat on a bench in the park. We can finally walk and people will think we are Americans!
