3: In 1807 Martin Van Buren married his distant cousin Hannah Hoes

4: Education: Attended local school until the age of 14, then studied law.

5: Facts -Had four boys -Only Governor of New York for 3 months to improve Andrew Jackson's chances of winning in the state election. -He was Theodore Roosevelt's third cousin.

6: Platform Van Buren had been elected on a platform that opposed the extension of slavery but allowed it to continue where it already existed.

7: Jobs -Lawyer -Governor of New York -Ambassador to Great Britain -Secretary of State -U.S. Senator -Vice President

8: Events during presidency: | - In 1837 the panic began. Hundreds of banks and businesses failed. Thousands lost their lands. For about five years the United States was wracked by the worst depression thus far in its history. -Van Buren continued Jackson's policies concerning the Seminole Indians. In 1842, the Second Seminole War ended with the Seminoles being defeated.

9: -Issues arose with British held Canada during Van Buren's time in office. One such event was the so-called "Aroostook War"
