2: She was born March 16th, 1822 in Bordeaux, France.. She was one of four children She was Trained to be an artist when she was young. 3: Rosa wanted to look more masculine.. She succeeded with her defiant personality leading to her dressing as a male, cutting her hair short, along smoking cigarettes and cigars to obtain this goal.. She wanted to look more masculine because she wanted artistic authority. 6: Rosa began training as an artist when she was thirteen years old with her father. She never attended a formal art class. | http://www.artsconnected.org/toolkit/images/rosa_bonheur.jpg

7: She debuted at the Paris Salon in 1841. Her first pieces of artwork to be put inside of the salon were mainly goats and sheep along with rabbits nibbling on carrots. This began a long line of works exhibited at the Salon.

12: In 1859, she moved from Paris and built a new home near the forest of Fontainebleau.

13: She opened her home in Fontainebleau during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. She never actually served in the war, however she assisted others.

14: Rosa continued to work on sketches and paintings for the next forty years until her death on May 25th, 1899. She was seventy-eight years old.
