2: William Clark was born on August 1, 1770, in Virginia.
3: He served as the 4th governor of the Missouri Territory from July 1, 1813 to September 18, 1820.
4: William was an American explorer, soldier, Indian agent, territorial governor, and a farmer.
5: Before his famous expedition, he served in a militia and the United States Army.
6: In 1803, Meriwether Lewis recruited Clark to join The Corps of Discovery
7: The Corps of Discovery are given the task of exploring the newly purchased Louisiana Territory by president Thomas Jefferson.
8: They began the expedition in 1804 and scouted the new land for the next two years.
9: Along the way they discovered countless new plants and animals, mapped much of the land, and established relations with the local tribes
