FC: Atlantic slave trade By: Bennett Tilton
1: Twelve and a half million Africans were taken as slaves between 1525 and 1867 during the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. Unfortunately, one of eight died before they even made it to their destination. The Africans that did make it faced a life time of hardships and despair.
2: African chiefs were willing to trade slaves for guns with the Europeans. They wanted the powerful weapons so they could conquer other chiefs. They started making new laws, that made slavery the punishment for their certain crimes. Africans also raided inland villages for wanted slaves.
3: Soon the continent of Africa became a place of violence, war, and fear. African families were torn apart, people were living in fear, and no one was safe.
