FC: Teacher for a Day ByFlorence and Mrs. B
In the story that follows, the black text was provided by a worksheet "Write the Ending". The blue text is the creative work of a 5th student, who had finished her MAP Test a little early.
Teacher for a Day By FN We were sitting in class one day, waiting for our teacher Miss. Rishani. It was getting late. We waited and waited. Some kids were not behaving. They were screaming. I wanted the teacher to get there soon because it was time for my favorite subject, Literacy. Suddenly the principal came into the room. “Your teacher is out sick today. One of you will have to teach the class,” the principal said. And then, to my surprise, she picked ME!
II went up to the front of the class and sat at my teacher's desk. Then, I said, “Turn to page 39 in your books, please.” Since the principal was still here everyone listened, but the worst was yet to come. Some children snickered as the principal shut the door. “Here are your worksheets,” I said, less confidently. To my surprise, the kids took them without a word. They wanted the worksheets just to turn them into paper planes. As one plane hit my shaky hand, my brown eyes filled with tears. Did I have the qualities to be a teacher, or not?
Martha, a short, brown-haired girl came up to me. “Be quiet or you’re staying in for recess” she said calmly. The moment she finished all the kids in the class hushed. We learned and taught till noon. “Good-bye!” I call to the students as they left the class room. All thanks to Martha, I was called a great teacher. Before leaving the room and turning off the lights, I left an apple and a note for the teacher explaining what happened. I also left a lollipop for Martha as thanks.
