1: Adriene Dealy is a level headed 23 year old realist. Her mother died of ovarian cancer when she was only 12 which has caused her to lack close relationships with anyone except her father. | Adrienne has made a living working in different hotels all over the world. | The Princeville in Kauai | Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach | Koh Samui in Thailand | The Little Nel in Aspen
2: After a long winter in Aspen with an undeserving boyfriend, Adrienne Dealey decides it is time for a change, yet again. | Her new destination for her fresh start is Nantucket Massachusetts. | New rules to live by 1. Become self-sufficient 2. Do not lie about past 3. Exercise good judgment about men pg 1
3: Adrienne got an assistant managing job at The Blue Bistro. She has never worked in restaurants before but is ready for a change | The Blue Bistro is a small fancy restaurant on the beach. It is run by Thatcher and Fiona. The restaurant is extremely successful yet it is its last season.
4: Adrienne and Thatcher, the owner, begin to fall for each other but there are still walls up. Living by her new rule Adrienne is trying to use good judgment and Thatcher is strangely close with Fiona. | Thatcher is six feet tall with sloping shoulders, strawberry blond hair, green eyes, and freckles. He is one of the friendliest people Adrienne has ever met. | Yes, Adrienne thought, something was different this time. pg 116
5: The Staff | Fiona "Fee" Kemp She is featured in many magazines as one of the most talented chiefs in New England but new ever gives interviews or leaves the kitchen. She has long honey blond hair and huge blue eyes. She is no more then five feet tall and 100 pounds. Fiona seems to be uncomfortable with Adrienne and intimidates her greatly. | Caren Friar She has been a server at the Blue Bistro since the beginning. She is tall and thin and wears her hair so tight it gives Adrienne a headache to look at. | Duncan Duncan is a famous bar tender. He is known all over the west and Adrienne often went to his bar in Aspen. He brings in a lot of the women but is currently tied down to Caren. Deliah is Duncan's little sister who works as his bar back. | Five servers, three bussers and a bartender | The Subiacos The Subiacos include: Antonio, Hector, Louis, Henry, Eddie, Paco,Jojo, and Mario. They all work in the kitchen together helping Fiona. Mario is the pastry chef and a close friend of Adrienne. They are all one big Mexican family.
6: BECOME | Adrienne begins to love her job and get close with everyone at the restaurant, something she hasn't done in a long time.
7: The Secrets Out! | Adrienne finally learns what has been going on with Fiona all along. She is very close to dying from cystic fIbrosis. She begins to make frequent trips to the hospital. Thatcher has been her best friend since birth and because of this he puts her first. ALWAYS | "I don't want to break your heart. I am going to die first." pg 307
8: Fiona is dead. Just like that the restaurant closes. Thatcher married her before she died because she always wanted a husband. Adrienne is heart broken and plans to leave Nantucket. | CLOSED | The Bistro was quiet then except for the distant sound of the ocean, and the resonant note of the bell. pg 299
9: As Adrienne is leaving town she is told Thatcher is back. She is drawn back to the ground where the Blue Bistro use to be and there she sees Thatcher. He confesses his love for her and his sympathy for Fiona's wish for someone to love her enough to marry her before she died. Adrienne forgives him and finally decides to settle down and open up to the right man. She used good judgment this time. | "Nantucket is too beautiful to be a mistake." Pg 320
