FC: Abraham Lincoln by Lauren V

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12,1809. He grew up on a small farm in Hodgenville Kentucky. | He was elected president in 1860. he served five years as president. 1860 through 1865

Lincoln unsuccessfully ran for Illinois Legislator, but two years later was elected s a Whig. He also became a lawyer, and a part of the House of Representatives. | Lincoln didn't get much schooling and had said " I could read write and cipher the Rule of Three; and that was all." When he was older LIncoln served briefly in The Black Hawk War.

While Jefferson Davis was the "president" of the union, Lincoln was the president of the United States. While president, he was also the Commander-in-Chief of he Union army. This is the highest ranking military officer.

Abraham Lincoln In the Civil War

Abraham Lincoln was an abolitionist. He strongly agreed to anti-slavery and was fighting for the Union. He new the Union needed to win this war. And to do that he needed a good general.

So he hired a General that he new would get the job done. That man was Ulysses S. Grant. Grant was wiling to fight and win this war. | Abraham Lincoln had faith in Grant when no on else did. MAny people wanted him to be replaced. But Lincoln refused.

Abraham Lincoln affected this United States greatly during the civil war. He affected the North more than the South, because he was fighting with the North. Because of Abe Lincoln the north one the fight and the south lost all slavery.

If the North didn't have Lincoln helping them the South would of had a good chance of winning. Lincoln used his smarts in the war. He used the railroad to his advantage. | He had his soldiers rip out the Souths railroads and build more for the north. This made it much easier to ship supplies, and people down to the south.

Without Abraham Lincoln being the Commander-in Chief, and president The North definitely wouldn't have won, and the U.S would have been taken over and be a slave country. Being president really helped Lincoln in this war. He had the rights to pass laws and bills, like the Emancipation Proclamation. This document says that all slaves during this time period were now free.

Even though the North had the better chance at the war because they had more people money and resources. The south had a great general and hardworking soldiers. If Abraham Lincoln hadn't been there to guide the North through the war. the North would have easily lost to the south even with all of their resources. They wouldn't have known how to use them.

Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865. He was shot by John Wilkes Booth. If he wasn't killed the U.S. could definitely use his great leadership skills. Especially during the time of segregation between whites and blacks. I'm sure that him and Martin Luther King Jr. would be great friends.
