BC: The End!
FC: The Gold Rush
1: The Pine Mountain Gold museum is located in Villa Rica, Georgia. In 1826 gold was found in Villa Rica which is Spanish for "rich village". Today you can view many gold rush artifacts at the museum and even pan for your own gold!
3: How many mines were originally around the Villa Rica area? The mining tools are shown in this case. You see a skillet which was used to pan for gold. That involves submerging the pan in water, then shaking it to sort the gold from gravel and other material.
5: These machines are still in working order and they are used to separate the rock, gravel, and sand from the gold. Typically, gold powder is what you will find.
6: Here are other pictures of what you'll see at the museum. Arrowheads, buttons, gold nuggets, and gold mining tools are all displayed.
9: Also explore the live farm animal exhibit on the property. There are goats, pigs, chickens, and horses. You can also walk along the trail to see the remains of the gold mines of Villa Rica!
11: Read more about the California Gold Rush! A great book that lets you choose your own path is The California Gold Rush by Elizabeth Raum. You can decide for example if you would get to California by sea or by land in seek of your fortune to find gold!
