S: THE OUTSIDERS SCRAPBOOK BY KAYTIE KERR
FC: The Outsiders By Kaytie Kerr Block 3
This scrapbook is based off of the character Ponyboy.
Both of Ponyboy's parents died in a car accident. This is important because it left Pony living with his two older brothers, Sodapop and Darry.
Ponyboy loved to go to the movies. He liked to do this because he was able to forget about all of the troubled in his life, get away from his world, and clear his mind. This movie cover for How to Murder Your Wife, which came out in the year 1965 (the same year the novel took place), would have interested Pony because of his love of attending movies.
Ponyboy, as well as many of the other members of the Greasers, were addicted to smoking.
Pony and Johnny both saved school children from this church building that they were staying at, when it suddenly caught on fire. They both went from "zeros to heros" because of their actions.
Pony loved the book Gone With the Wind. Ponyboy read to Johnny when they had run away, as well as when Johnny was on his death-bed.
StayGold | This saying would have meant a lot to Pony because as Johnny was dying, the last thing that he told Ponyboy to do was to "Stay Gold". He meant to stay yourself and don't change for any other person. Be who you want to be.
Because of his injuries from saving the children at the scene of the burning church, Johnny was not able to recover fully, and he passed away. This was very hard for Pony because Johnny was one of his best friends out of all the Greasers.
There were so many events in The Outsiders that effected Ponyboy forever. He was given the assignment to write about his life to boost his grade in school. He started out by saying, "When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home." This is how The Outsiders started, and only at the end do you realize it was Ponyboy writing the novel.
