2: John Steibeck was born in 1902 in Salinas, California.

3: He wrote many other novels. Such as: Of Men and Mice, The Grapes of Wrath, East of Eden, and The Moon is Down. | He won the Literature Nobel Prize in 1962.

4: Setting

5: The story takes place in La Paz in the 19th century.

6: Main character, Father of Coyoitio and husband of Juana. | Kino

7: ''Wife'' and mother of Coyotito. | Juana

8: Son of Kino and Juana. | Coyotito

9: The pearl buyers told Kino that heis pearl was worthless. They were all working together against Kino. | Pearl Buyers

10: Kino is a poor Mexican-Indian. He is married to Juana. They also have an infant son, Coyotito. While eating breakfast, Kino notices a scorpion crawling towards the baby. Before Kino could get to the child, the scorpion stings Coyotito. Once Juana's attempt to suck out the poision failed, she decided to take the baby to the doctor, even though the doctor only saw the wealthy citizens of the town. The doctor won't help Kino after he already offered eight pearls. Kino leaves in disappointment knowing he must some way to pay the doctor in order to save his only son. | Chapter 1

11: Kino is a pearl fisherman. He figured if he found more pearls to give the doctor, then he would help the baby. While fishing, he found the biggest pearl he had ever seen. Suddenly, Coyotito's swelling started to go down. Kino and Juana figured it to be caused from the pearl. The family decided to sell the pearl in order to pay the doctor. | Chapter 2

12: People of the village quickly hear of Kino's great news. Everyone imagines what they would do with the wealth the pearl brought. Kino just wants his son to have a good education. The doctor comes to the house and gives Coyotito medicine that he says will cure him within a hour. In the middle of the night, a stranger breaks in to the house, but Kino fights him. | Chapter 3

13: Juana and Kino go into town in order to sell the pearl. Alot of the buyers tell him the pearl is worthless and do not offer Kino very much money. He takes the pearl and goes back home. Again, that night Kino is attacked, but he fights the stranger off. | Chapter 4

14: In the middle of the night when Kino is asleep, Juana gets the pearl and goes to throw it in the sea. As she's about to, Kino grabs the pearl. Then he punches and kicks her. Again, Kino is attacked. This time, he actually kills a man. They both decide they have to run away. When they try to leave, Kino realizes there is a huge hole in the bottom of his canoe. Next, their house is on fire. They hide in Kino's brother's house until they can escapse the village the next day. | Chapter 5

15: On their journey, Kino looks in the pearl and sees a bloody body. Kino makes many fake trails so the trackers can't find them. Coyotito cries and the trackers believe it to be a coyote. They shoot in the direction of the noise, and the shot kills Coyotito. Once Kino and Juana make it back to town, everyone stops and stars. Finally, they throw the pearl into the ocean and watch it sink to the bottom. | Chapter 6

17: The moral of the story is to never trust your vision. Kino saw the pearl and thought it was the most beautiful thing he ever saw. He thought it would bring him luck and wealth. Little did he know, it would actually bring him evil and even kill his child. | Moral
