2: John Steinbeck is the author of the novel The Pearl and many more. Steinbeck was born in Salinas, California, in 1902. | Steinbeck went to Stanford University, where he enrolled in literature and writing courses. He left before taking a degree.
3: He spent the last twenty years of his life in New York City with his third wife. he traveled a lot in his life and he loved his work. Steinbeck won a Nobel Prize in 1962. he died in 1968.
4: The setting of The Pearl is taking place in La Paz, Mexico. | In La Paz the townspeople are either rich or poor. The class depends on where they live in La Paz.
5: The doctor lives in a higher class part of town other than Kino and Juana. The doctor is part of the wealthy townspeople. | Kino and Juana live in the lower class of the townspeople. Kino and Juana are Mexican Indian therefore that may explain why they live in homes like the one to the right.
6: Kino is married to Juana and they have a son named Coyotito. Kino is a young Mexican Indian male who lives in La Paz, Mexico. he is strong and protective of his family.
7: Juana is the wife of Kino and she is a very strong woman.She looks after her child Coyotito after he get stung by a scorpion in the novel The Pearl. She is a young Mexican Indian woman.
8: Juan Thomas is the brother of Kino. He has a fat wife named Apollonia. They both have four children together.
9: Apollina is the wife of Juan Thomas. She is large and has four children.
10: Coyotito is the son of Juana and Kino. he is the baby that got stung by a scorpion and caused Kino to find the pearl.
11: The doctor is spanish and he is very selfish and greedy. He gave Coyotito a pill to make him throw up and he ended up having to come back and "cure" the child. he only did that to make himself look like a great doctor.
12: The pearl buyers were the men that tried to manipulate Kino into making him think his pearl was not worth anything.
13: Chapter 1 Kino and Juana have a son named Coyotito. Coyotito gets stung by a scorpion. Kino wants the doctor to help, but the doctor doesn't want to help because their two races don't get along. The doctor wants money but Kino only has eight small pearls.
14: Chapter 2 Kino has a canoe that was given to his father from his grandfather. Juana puts seaweed on the babies swollen shoulder. Kino and Juana are looking for pearls so they can hire the doctor to cure Coyotito. Kino finds the worlds largest pearl.
15: Chapter 3 Kino andJuana showed their neighbors the pearl Kino found. Kino looked into the pearl and he saw him and Juana married in a church. The pearl showed them their fortunes. The doctor sayd that Coyotito is well now, but he lied so he gave the baby a capsule for him to take. the capsule made him more sick.
16: Chapter 4 Kino goes to La Paz to sell the pearl that day. The buyers of the pearl said that the pearl was too large to be real and it was like fools gold. The first dealer didn't want to buy it. One dealer went to fifteen hundred for the pearl. Kino buried the pearl and he got beat up for it. Juana also wants to get rid of the pearl.
17: Chapter 5 Kino killed a man who was caught stealing the pearl, but Kino caught him. Juana and Kino would never have the same life as they had before. A search party has been made to find Kino. Kino has convinced himself that the pearl is his life now.
18: Chapter 6 Kino Juana and the baby make their way through the town on foot to get away from the town on foot to get away from the search party. They find a cave for shelter and a hide away from the hunters. The hunters mistaked the baby for a coyote, and shot the baby in the head. Kino throws the pearl into the sea and it sank to the bottom.
19: The moral of this story is that don't be greedy and when things go bad there will be other ways than killing someone to get what you need.
