3: John Steinbeck grew up in Salinas, California in 1902. In 1919 he went to Stanford University for literature and writing courses. His first novel was Cup of Gold in 1929. After this novel he wrote many more. He died in 1962 in New York City.
4: The setting takes place in La Paz, Mexico, during the 18 century. | The Doctor's House
5: Kino's House
6: Kino was a young and strong man with long black her hung over his brown forehead, and he had a mustache. He was the father of Coyotito and husband of Jauna. | Juana was a very obediant wife to Kino. She had long black hair with dark skin. She was the mother of Coyotito.
7: Coyotito is a young baby of Jauna and Kino. He gets bit by a scorpion in the begining of the story and in the end of the story he gets shot in the head. | The doctor is a fat Hispanic man that is very rich and selfish.
8: Chapter 1 This chapter is when the characters get introduced into the story. Also in this chapter Coyotito gets stung by a scorpion. When jauna and Kino take him to the doctor, the doctor doesn't help them.
9: Chapter 2 | In this chapter, Kino needs some money so that the doctor can help Coyotito. Kino goes pearl diving so he can use the pearls he finds for money. While he's pearl diving he finds The Pearl of the World.
10: Chapter 3 | In this chapter everybody starts finds out that Kino found the Pearl of the World so people like the doctor, preacher, and other people started to show up at his house.
11: Chapter 4 | In this chapter Kino goes to the pearl buyers and he tried to sell the pearl to them ,but they tried to cheat him by buying it at a low price.
12: Chapter 5 | In this chapter Jauna tries to get rid of the pearl but Kino beat her so she wouldn't get rid of it. He also tries to leave to go to the capital in his canoe ,but somebody had put a hole in it.
13: Chapter 6 | In this chapter Kino and Jauna was running from the trackers, and one of the trackers shot Coyotito ,because they thought he was a coyote. In the end Kino gets rid of the pearl.
14: Moral | The moral of the novel, Pearl, is that even though you might have alot of money, you could still be unhappy.
