1: Kristen Lindsey period 6 Mrs. Crew October 27, 2009

2: setting Kino and his family live in La Paz, on the Gulf of California.They live in the brush houses on the coast.

5: Kino is the devoted husband of Juana and father of Coyotito. Kino is a peaceful, hardworking man. He has a song for everything.

7: Juana is the common-law wife to Kino and mother of Coyotito. She is the first to notice the evil brought by the pearl.

9: Coyotito is the son of Juana and Kino. Coyotito is bitten by a scorpion, but his cause of death was from a gun shot.

11: The doctor is a wealthy, heartless, miserly man. He refuses to help Coyotito because he is an Indian child. The doctor's greed really shows through his actions.

12: John Steinbeck

13: John Steinbeck was born in Salinas, California. He attended Stanford University and majored in journalism. He married and moved to Pacific Grove where he was a laborer, journalists, and a caretaker.

14: Chapter 1 summary Kino and his peaceful family are going about their day as usual. All goes wrong when Coyotito is bitten by a scorpion. The doctor refuses to see the sick baby because of their race and lack of money.

15: Chapter 2 summary Kino and his family go out to sea in search of a great pearl. Kino is reluctant to open the pearl because he fears he won't really have the pearl. The last oyster ends up containing the great pearl.

16: Chapter 3 Summary News traveled to the town about the pearl. Everyone soon became interested in Kino's pearl. Kino began to imagine all of the marvelous things he could do with his fortune. Visitors came by Kino's in hope of receiving a portion.

17: Chapter 4 Summary Kino and his family dressed in their very best clothes on the day of the pearl auction.The pearl buyers tried to manipulate Kino into thinking his pearl was not worth much. Kino wasn't pleased. He chose to take his business to the capitol.

18: Chapter 5 Summary Juana isn't blinded by the evil the pearl is bringing upon her family. She tries to throw the evil pearl back into the sea, but Kino strikes her. Trackers follow Kino constantly because they want the pearl. Kino stabs and kills a tracker. All peace has vanished.

19: Chapter 6 Summary A tracker sunk Kino's canoe, forcing him and his family to walk to the capital. Trackers have followed Kino the whole way. Evil has completely taken over Kino's life when his only son is shot by trackers. Kino realizes that he must throw the evil pearl back into the sea.

20: Wealth can change people in drastic ways. Sometimes the changes can turn out to be life altering.
