FC: Zach Stanley Period 3 English I

 Stephen King Horror

 1989 Maine

This story is a story about a new family that decides to move out into an old town in Maine that has been over run by a giant road in the middle of the old town. This road has killed many of the children of the town's pets over the years, but there is hope for those kids and their pets. The old Native American cemetery. The cemetery has the ability to bring anything back to life after it is buried in it's soil. The only problem that the children and everyone else will soon discover about this little "miracle" is that their beloved that were buried there do not come back the same. They come back as a monster that is filled with evil, pet and human alike. There is no question of if this family tries to use the magic of the grave, but only if this unfortunate family will survive the evil that lurks beyond the pet cemetery and in the dark soils of the Native American grave.

The theme of The Pet Sematary is that controlling the life or death of another human should not be left in the hands of human kind because we do not know enough to decide if someone should live or die, and he also wanted his readers to know that there are consequences to our actions.

Characters: Gauge Creed- The baby of the family. He gets killed by a trucker driving down the road. Jud- The neighbor of the Creed family. He is an old man that lives across the road from the Creed family. He introduces Luis Creed to the cemetery. Luis Creed- The father in the Creed family. He is the first of the family to know of the cemetery. He buries Gauge Creed in the cemetery to bring him back to life. Rachel Creed- The mother in the Creed family. She has a Phobia of death. She dies at the end of the story and is brought back to life by her husband, Luis Creed.

There was an internal conflict with the cemetery about weather or not they should use the cemetery. There was internal conflict when Gauge was killed by the trucker because his parents were grieving, and there was external conflict when Gauge was killed because of him being killed. There were many external conflicts with the living dead, such as: Rachel Creed coming back from the dead and killing Luis Creed, Gauge Creed coming back from the dead to kill his mother and Jud, and even in a flashback a man is killed by his son after he brings his son back to life. There was also internal conflict with Luis Creed as he was deciding if he should use the cemetery to bring back his son.

There were no resolutions to any of the conflicts in this story except to kill the living dead if they do not kill you first.

Stephen King is an amazing author in my opinion. He always ends his stories with the reader wanting more. If i had to vote on the best horror book writer Stephen King would win by a landslide.

I thought that this novel was an outstanding novel because of the terrifying way that it is written and because of how it did not end like i expected. If i had to pick anything to connect this novel to, it would be Dawn of the Dead. I would connect this story to Dawn of the Dead because in both of these stories good is overpowered by evil.
