The Six Essential Elements of Geography
The World In Spatial Terms The world in spatial means to use maps and technology. We also use relative and absolute location to describe where things are. Relative location is the location of a place relative to another place. We use relative location when we give directions to our friend. Absolute location is the exact location of a place on Earth. Coordinates are used to describe absolute locations.
Places and Regions Places are real locations on Earth. Regions are different areas. Places and regions are very important to geography. They help us understand that every place on Earth is different. Places and regions are important to geography because they help us learn about climate, traditions, physical features and more.
Physical Systems Climate, erosion, earthquakes, and volcanoes are part of Earth's physical processes. These things are different all over the world. This is important to geography because it helps us make decisions like where to live. It also helps us be prepared when natural disasters happen so we can know how to react.
Human Systems Human systems are how humans settle the Earth. We do this by using resources, building ways of transportation, communicating, becoming part of society. Human systems are a part of geography because we can use the world around us to use human systems.
Environment and Society We use geography to help us make decisions that affect the environment. We can recycle to help make the planet a greener place. When we understand what affects the Earth we can learn different ways to protect the environment.
The Uses of Geography Knowing geography is very important. When we learn it and understand it we're able to use it everyday! This can be very important when we're all grown up. By knowing how to use geography we can make the world a better place and understand our planet.
