FC: Paula Garza #04 Ms. Marcela Morales Science 6*A January 2011 | One kind word can warm three winter months... | Journey to the Cold Airs of Antarctica
She is 21 and I am 25. I am a scientist, while she is studying to be one. My brother, Salvador, is in touch with us but lives in another country. Suddenly something popped up in my head that was the greatest idea ever. | My Sister and I are really close. We live on the same block and we hang out each afternoon.
''Hey Sara! Look what I found, it's a brochure! I read all of it and it talks about a trip to Antarctica. Well, it's not a real trip is an investigation and now that i am a scientist and you are preparing to be one this should be a great experience.
Salvador called that afternoon to talk to us. He sounded pretty happy. When we asked about the trip, his answer was with no other thoughts... YES! Our flight was to the tip of Chile. Since there were no people in Antarctica, there are no airports. We would have to go by boat.
We stayed in Chile for a couple of days. We went to museums and the tour guides kept telling us why Chile was called "Pepper". | When we arrived at Antarctica i was feeling kind of nervous and seasick Anyways, when we got into our lodge, there was a bear sleeping in a bed. I started screaming but my sister just calmly went and pat him in the head. It woke up and started to roar. Then lick Sara like a dog.
The bear became our friend, Sara's best friend. it came along everywhere we went and I am greatful for it. while Salvador was fishing dinner and breakfast,i was in search of animals. There were all kind, seals, squirrel, birds, there were so much I took some pictures of.
"Sara take my hand!!, I yelled. Sara had fallen into cold water. She was terrified but with the help of my brother and I, Sara was taken home. She was really cold. Nothing could make her feel warm. The temperature was below 15 degrees. That's it... The bear! | Furry, bear's name, stood up and hugged Sara. With his heat Sara could stay warm! Furry is a very smart pet! As Sara would say, "That bear saved my life, I owe it one"
This journey was an experience to learn. I was given a prize for studying in Antarctica and Sara was given a scholarship to Canada. Salvador continued his normal life, since he wasn't a scientist. After this trip, I didn't only get to know the Airs of Antarctica, but also a best friend that will stay in my heart forever.
