1: Location | Madagascar is located in the Indian Ocean off of the coast of East Africa.

2: Population | 21,926,221

3: Interesting Facts | +Madagascar is home to some of the richest rain forests in the world. +It is well known as home of the aye-aye, mouse lemur, and many more lemurs! +There are well over 50 species of lemurs living in the rain forests of Madagascar.

4: Government | Madagascar has a Democratic Republic. | Mada | This Republic has a president who is elected by the people. The president is the head of state. They also have a Prime Minister who is elected by Parliament and the president. He is head of government.

6: Economic Indicators | Madagascar exports coffee, sugar, vanilla beans, cloves, oil, minerals, industrial goods, and consumer goods. Tourism plays major role in Madagascar's economy. Because Madagascar has rich, sandy beaches and rain forests,. People come from all over the world to visit.

8: Current Situation

9: The current political situation of Madagascar is pandemonium. There are citizens on riot and massive protests. Madagascar military has taken action in these protests and has started to shoot and kill hundreds of citizens. For the past few months, Madagascar has been hit by many tropical storms. People are on strike right now for a different leader and have put fire to, and invaded nominees’ houses, and public stores.

11: Cultural Aspects | The three major religions in Madagascar are traditional African(52%), Christian(41%), and Islamic(7%). The main language is Malagasy. The Malagasy people share some common cultural practices. They often reflect upon their ancestors for everyday choices. Malagasy consider the building and maintenance of tombs and observance of religious ceremonies concerning their ancestors a central way of life. Malagasy are very artistic and often make textile, wood carvings, paintings, and stone carvings.

13: The first people of Madagascar settled there in about 200 and 500 A.D. Centuries later, King Andrianampoinimerina in 1793 brought all tribes together and made one kingdom called Merina. His son, King Radama I, started ruling. He extended Merina over most of the whole island. He made friends with Europe and they helped him modernize the reign of Merina. He brought in missionaries, but after he died, Queen Ranavalona drove them out. In 1883, the French attacked Madagascar. There was 3 years of war. Finally, the French took over and French became official language. Then in 1958, French elected new leader and he declared their independence.
