I wonder if you have thought about traveling to the spice islands. If you have, you might want to think again. You will learn why you want to travel to the spice islands, what you will encounter, and what will happen when you come home. The waters are dangerous and tales of unknown monsters lurk in it’s depths. The journey is long and dangerous. You need to sail around the tip of Africa just to get there. Even when you’ve gotten to the islands you need to sail all the way back. If you still want to go travel to the Moluccas or Maluku Islands. You can get spices cheap and you can sell them for so much more but, even then the waters are dangerous and the journey is long. It might even be more scary then others. Are you still willing to go? If you are you must be very brave. | Introduction | Spice Islands!
Why would you want to travel to the spice islands? What’s the point if it’s so dangerous? Can’t you just go to the supermarket and by some spices? Well, lets get this straight they had no supermarkets back then. If you wanted to get some spices you had to either travel to the spice islands or buy super expensive spices from merchants. If you wanted to get rich the best way was to buy spices from the spice islands and sell them for 35000 times as much. If your spices are still fresh they will sell for even more. Sometimes you need to take a risk even if it includes sailing across uncharted and monster infested waters. | Why would you want to travel to the spice islands?
What will you encounter on your journey? | What will you encounter on your journey? Will there be cannibals? Sea monsters? Storms? Actually, there is all of them. Many of the islands on the coast of Africa are filled with cannibals. The natives on the spice islands tell you of dangerous sea monsters lurking underneath the water. You think that is just to make people nervous to come so they can raise the prices but, many people went and never returned. The cape of storms has giant waves 100 feet tall all the time! If you are lucky they will only be 70 feet tall. I wonder if you still want to go..... | YUM! Spices!
When you come back home what will happen? | When you come back home what will happen? You have been very brave and you made it all the way there and back. Your village treats you like a hero when you show them your sacks of spices. You promised a sack for them because you had about 3,000 of them. When go to the market you by a stand and start to sell your goods. The bags of spices are flying of the shelves like crazy! By the end of the day you made $10,000 and you have only sold about 1,000 bags of spices! You go to sleep wondering if you will make enough money to become a Noble and have so much money that you can have even more slaves. Maybe you can live with the king and queen if you have enough money. You can’t fall asleep for hours but, when you do visions of money and golden coins fly through your head. | Spices Rock!!!!
Conclusion | When you wake up you smell the scent of fresh biscuits, your favorite. Your wife hands you a plate of them (still fresh and warm) when you walk into the kitchen. Off to the market you go. When you arrive you by a bigger stall and start to brag on how much fresher your spices are than everyone else. You sold less spices than yesterday and you don’t know why. When your wife sees your puzzled and disappointed look, she asks you what is wrong. You tell her that you didn’t make as much money as yesterday. She says that if you brag or you are greedy God will punish you by making less people want to buy your goods. The next day you go to church and beg God to be sorry for you. You think he forgave you because you sold the last of your spices for $5,000. You are happy and hope to go on another journey to the spice islands,if you dare! | Spicy Spices!!!!
