Gary and Toni Stringam An anniversary is a time to celebrate the joys of today, the memories of yesterday, and the hopes of tomorrow. Poem written by Alisa Stringam Toy | Celebrating 50 years together!
Their story begins spring of 1961, BYU's 7th ward held the promise of fun. He was asked to sing, an accompanist was sought, Why, Toni of course, she's the best of the lot! | He asked her out on their very first date, "101 Dalmations", she took the bait. She knew he was the one, simple and pure, And what of Gary? Well, he wasn't so sure.
A few weeks passed and she began to worry, Didn't he feel it too? Why wouldn't he hurry?! A slap upside the head by a bishop who was smart, Soon opened his eyes, his mind, and his heart.
She was sure a proposal he was soon to give, She was ready for marriage and with him to live, But instead of romantically getting on one knee, He began to discuss their future casually. | Near the end of June they dated steadily, He was infatuated now, he admitted readily. Seeking answers, to the temple he turned, Where all his hopes and plans were confirmed.
August 31, 1961 Salt Lake Temple | "Are you asking me to marry you?" she asked rather shocked, "Yeah, I guess I am", and on and on he talked. Plans were made and the marriage date was set, With only six weeks there was little time to fret.
He was handsome in his suit, she was a breath-taking vision...
And both were very happy and pleased with their decision.
A honeymoon in Canada at the beautiful Lake Louise, Their marriage was just beginning, wouldn't it be a breeze?
First stop, Minnesota without a penny to their name, With plans for a masters program to St. Paul they came. A busy schedule for him and a secretary job for her, Their tiny little apartment held a love so full and pure | Almost two years to the day a baby boy arrived, Another boy two years later to which they weren't surprised. A doctorate obtained and a post-doc within reach, They found themselves in Hawaii and played upon the beach. | First car- 1961 Chev. Corvair

A business opportunity in Alberta's southern plain, Took the family to Magrath with greenhouses to obtain. When the business venture failed and an income wasn't there, They found themselves in dire need and humbly knelt in prayer.
For two and one half years they struggled to survive, But never did they doubt that the good Lord would provide. They drew comfort from the temple, and tithes were always paid, And despite their many trials, mighty miracles were displayed.
Nothing could have prepared them for what lay ahead, All their thoughts and efforts were just on keeping kids fed. But when they felt they could no longer handle all the strife, A job in third-world Pakistan was about to change their life! | PAKISTAN | Welcome to

The empty nest that became their home was unsettling and cold. They found themselves discussing what their future now would hold. The Lord had carefully molded them for a spiritually heavy load, And both were stunned when the calling of Patriarch was bestowed.
Several years of faithful service as Patriarch he gave, When promptings of another service required them to be brave. They submitted their papers, packed their bags and were mission-bound, For eighteen months it was in beautiful England they could be found. | Sister Stringam | Missionaries for the church of | Jesus Christ | Elder Stringam | Missionaries for the church of | Jesus Christ | Manchester England Mission
