BC: Gong Xi Fa Cai! | Wishes for Prosperity, Abundance and Joy in the Year of the Horse! | Medel and Milen Martha, Martin and Moses

Change. We knew it was coming. The first quarter of the year was marked by uncertainty. And faith. And a lot of prayers. By February a decision was made, one which we felt we were clearly led to-- Medel would join another company and we would all move to another country. In June we bade goodbye to Dubai whom we had grown to love dearly in five years. By August, we were in our new home, in Singapore. | So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain

MEDEL | Five years in comfortable Dubai. 15 years with giant Unilever. There was little to complain about. But somehow, everything about the move seemed right-----the timing, the job, the location, the company, They were aligned quite clearly with our family goals. And so, on to Friesland Campina. And to rainy Singapore! Since the move, I've adjusted well save for the frequent travel which the kids still complain about.

This year I just had to be a good support to everyone--to Medel, Martha, Martin and Moses. Prayer gave me the strength to do this. Not to say I did not 'lose it' many times. But almost everything I asked for, for all of them, God gave. | Milen

Martha | the quick brown fox | A school trip to London. The Sacrament of Confirmation. Playing for the Jr Varsity Softball Team. Graduating from Middle School. Shedding tears for friends left behind. New country. New school. Playing for the Varsity Volleyball Team. Making new friends. Kudos to Martha who has had so many firsts this year! And who has handled each one quite graciously.

Martin just took his skateboarding to another level this year placing first in a competition in Dubai and 4th in Singapore (where competition was very stiff!). He was also part of the Track and Field team in DAA. Since the move, Martin has been doing well -- spending a lot of time in the amazing skatepark close to home (taking taxis by himself!), as well as juggling schoolwork with extra-curricular activities. Adjusting to Singapore has been a challenge for Martin as he misses his very good friends in Dubai. His spirit is persevering, and with his kind heart and compassion, Martin will be back on his feet in no time! | martin

 champion

Moses continues to do very well in school, both in Dubai and Singapore. He is now into fencing and loving it. He spent a lot of his time with friends this year, the highlight of which was Felipe's visit to Singapore. Cool, resilient, fun to be with-- that's Moses. Living life with 'gusto' (and a big smile) is what Moses does best. And it is a blessing to those around him. | moses

Car packed, camping gear loaded, coffee in hand and ready to hit the road...and we're off! The kids didn't sleep a wink last night, they were so excited about the trip they stayed up helping Dad pack the car. We've been looking forward to having some time together and I think this was just the thing we needed. A long, long drive.

 Selamat Pagi, Singapura !

 Ni hao, Xinjiapo!

new | Notorious for long wait-lists and years of queuing up for admission, UWC miraculously accepted all our three kids on first application. An outstanding school by world standards, a cut above the rest. Easily one of the greatest blessings we received this year.

Smaller, but homier! Right across East Coast Park. 10 minutes to work, 15 minutes to school. Yey! | N E W H O M E | SEAFRONT ON MEYER

In a difficult year of change, where almost everything in our lives was turned upside down— friends and classmates, country and culture, job and company, home and conveniences—there is only one truth to how we survived and thrived through it all “And only these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love”. 1 Cor 13
