SCAD YEARBOOK 2012 - Page Text Content

1: Introduction | Andres Baquerizo 2011-2012 Success Coordinator | After 4 year in SCAD, I've learned so much, and have had much fun in and outside class. But after 4 years of being an Student Ambassador, I've done so much more than I thought could be possible. I've grown and seen many others grow alongside me. I've met great artists, and even more, made wonderful friends. And, after 4 amazing years, I can say: I wouldn't trade those memories for anything. If you are already are an ambassador, or are just becoming one, let me tell you: "Enjoy your time here, you will never regret it!"

2: STUDENT AMBASSADORS | Who are we? | What do we do? | “We are a group of dynamic student leaders, from various backgrounds and areas of study, and we are proud to call ourselves SCAD Bees! We are passionate about creating a positive and memorable first impression for all SCAD visitors.” | Ambassadors participate in a variety of programming that supports admission recruitment and public relations. Trained in various aspects of the admission process, they share SCAD's colorful history and university resources.

3: How do we do it? | Student Ambassadors assist with a wide variety of university events including SCAD Days, Accepted Student Days, Educator Weekends, Transfer Socials, the Scholarship Gala, Commencement, as well as at SCAD Signature Events such as the Savannah Film Festival and even special tours. In this capacity, student ambassadors have opportunities to network with V.I.P.

4: LEADERSHIP | For the past 7 years, Erina Tandy has been the advisor for the Student Ambassador Program. This year she was promoted to a different department, but she left the program in great hands! | During the time of our transition to a new advisor, several members of the Admission department helped us in Erina's place! | Eventually, we found our new adviser- Gaby LaRosa- a SCAD Alumni and former ambassador! Looking forward to working with her!

28: SCAD DAYS | On SCAD Days, prospective students from all over the world visit our campus to learn more about the college! Ambassadors give fun tours, mingle with students and their families, and answer questions about SCAD! This is our biggest event and we staff it about four times a year.

32: AMBASSADOR'S CHOICE | AWARDS | Ambassadors get the chance to honor their favorite staff and faculty members at this event. It's a great way to show their appreciation! They are the reason we enjoy studying at SCAD!

36: SIDEWALK ARTS FESTIVAL! AMBASSADOR'S SQUARE | Ambassadors always work collaboratively on a square and this year was no exception. Led by Coordinators Jessie Chen and Trey Amidon, with help of Taylor Turner and Andy Baquerizo, the ambassador square represented all of us!

40: Dear Student Ambassadors, I will count 2005-2012 as some of the most important years of my life. For me it was a time to learn and grow from some of the most outstanding student leaders at SCAD. The early years were a period full of changes for the program, there were growing pains, trials and errors, in a quest to find just the right arrangement that fit the group. The group was ever evolving and improvements were needed each year to better the program and keep up with the demands of such an astute group of students. I started the first year in October with a group of more than 130 students. Some participated, a large number did not. The handbook and training consisted of a one page handout and a campus tour. When events came up, I emailed the students and they responded to me whether they wanted to sign up. If I remember correctly, we had a whopping 15 significant events that year! There weren't student led programs like Young at Art or Hometown Heroes. The next year we elected leaders and wrote a constitution, similar to SCAD's chartered clubs. That didn't seem to work out either. A core group of ambassadors did most of the work, including assisting in planning a district conference for more than 400 student leaders from across the Southeast. The next year we introduced coordinator positions, and established what it meant to be an ambassador. For me, that's when the program grew the most. Student Coordinators worked hard to ensure the success of their programs, and we were able to branch out into new areas and improve training and develop a handbook. Later, the addition of MyVolunteerpage improved our record keeping and made posting and registering students for events so much simpler. | EPILOGUE

41: You can imagine my excitement, joy, relief and pride to hear that one of our most influential former student ambassadors was secured to lead the organization into the future. Gaby LaRosa led the Young at Art program and clenched a national award for its success. Later she was our first Director of Ambassadors, a position now known as Membership Coordinator. She played a large part in shaping the program to what it is today and presented ideas that I'd still hoped to pursue. With Gabby at the helm, there is no doubt in my mind that Ambassadors will continue to grow and improve. Along the way, there may be growing pains, but at every step, the people who invest their hearts and their time in reaching the goal will earn memories, build friendships and gain skills that will endure. I thank you ambassadors, for the memories, friendships and learning experiences that I will treasure forever. Onward and Upward! Erina Tandy
