3: Forward As I went through Paige's portfolio of photos, I thought her shots of athletes were outstanding. Her theme, which is sports photography, and her title, "Athlete in Action," portray athletic moments at El Camino High School very well. Paige makes the athlete she is shooting her center of interest using selective color on black and white photography. When going through her portfolio, it makes me wonder what its like to be that close to each sports team. Paige is very strong at getting the look on the players face in the moment of competition and showing the feeling of their emotion in that split second of time. The intensity of athletic expression is in all her images. I feel this book of Sports Photography sums up Paige Greer's passion for athleticism and high school competition in a unique and personal way. Katie Scurti
5: Artist Statement My art work is based on sports photography. My photos are all action shots of the athletes during their game. Each photo was taken in a different location, such as a football game, basketball game or even a swim meet. I wanted to create a sense of hard work in each of my photos to show the dedication it takes to be an athlete. I wanted to portray the teamwork each individual has. With my photos I wanted to do something different than just one basic color of the shot, I wanted to look at the picture in a different angle. I focused on the main subject by changing the back ground to black and white or sepia. I also used a lot of contrast on each photo. I really enjoy shooting sports photography. As a photographer I wanted to show everyone the different ways you can look at a hard working athlete. I enjoy taking photos of different types of sports because it gives me the chance to go behind the scene and get up and close with the team. For example going to a football game instead of being in the stands, I can get on the side lines with the players and actually get a better real life look and feel of what it's like to be an El Camino athlete.
