FC: The Great Depression

1: What caused The Great Depression? On Black Thursday October 24, 1929 many investors were nervous because of the rising interest rates. So they sold their stocks. After so many stocks were sold on the market, the prices went clear through to the earths core. But this was just the beginning. So basically the stock market crash is part of the reason that caused The Great Depression. Businesses failed and pretty much of everyones money was gone in a flash. The other reason is the economic troubles that Europe and other parts of the world was having. There were great delays; there was a great deal of war debts built up the size of the Empire State Building.

2: How long did The Great Depression last? The Great Depression lasted 12 years; from 1929-1939. There were droughts so people couldn't pay their taxes. It was hard to get a job to pay bills or to get food. Almost everybody in the USlost all of their money in the stock market. Farmers lost their homes and their land; most people had to move because they lost their homes like the farmers.

3: What was life like during The Great Depression? Life during The Great Depression was difficult,families had so many troubles like trying to buy food for themselves. people who lost their homes were sleeping in tents or their cars. Many children wandered anywhere because their family broke up. people gave up medical and dental care just to save money. Some families lived all together in one house.

4: Who was affected by The Great Depression. The government, investors, and families were all affected by the Great Depression. There was a widespread of hunger, poverty, and unemployment. Businesses were also affected, by losing a lot of business. Some people even lost their business. Most important the Great Depression affected the 20th century.

5: How did the Great Depression end? The Great Depression ended in 1939 and was a relief for many people. FDR had introduced some programs which lowered unemployment by a great deal. His new deal programs lowered the unemployment by 10%. One of the main reasons for the Great Depression ending is because of FDR's new deal programs which was part of the start of WWII. These programs helped alleviate many problems for many people.
