S: 2007 Graham Family Album
FC: Graham Family 2007
We spent New Year's Eve of 2006 in Disney World in Orlando, Florida. They passed out hats and noise makers...it was one LOUD day! But the kids had a blast! And the fireworks were awesome!
Disney World was still decorated for the holidays...it was a wonderland of fun!! | Santa himself led the parade down Main Street in Disney!
It was such a joy to see the park through the kids' eyes! Maggie loved Ariel, and Matthew loved Space Mountain! | ..with Ariel!
We picked Papa up at the airport and then got G.G. from her river cruise boat, and we all went to the Orange Bowl on January 2, 2007 to see Wake Forest play!
We lost, but we had a blast! Matthew especially loved being able to control the crowd! When he said, "Wake!" They said, "Forest!"
We were able to visit several family members on our little Florida trip. We saw Papa's family: Aunt Polly, Uncle Norman and Aunt Helon. We also saw Dr. Jim and his family: Jim, Susan, Scott and Laura.
In February, Mari and Elina came to stay with us. They had a lot of fun eating American food, shopping and going to church. Eli became a Christian while she was here, and she was baptized in the Atlantic ocean. Mari was also baptized as she had previously been sprinkled.
In March, Matthew took part in a Raleigh Little Theater production of "The Rabbit Who Wanted Wings"...we celebrated with American milkshakes!
Our lives were blessed when the African Children's Choir moved here to be a part of Kings Park Int't Church
There was a lovely dinner honoring the Drs. Graham in Washington DC. We had a nice visit with family.
We met Grandpa and Miss Marcia at the North Carolina Zoo for a day of fun!
We had an amazing family vacation in Pine Knoll Shores, NC. ALL the kids had a great time in the sun! | Mari and Eli, our japanese guests, really enjoyed playing in the sand! Matthew loved the waves, and Maggie loved it all!
Maggie had a very fun 5th birthday at Kelly Road Park in Apex, NC. She had a lot of friends: Caroline W, Susanna, Lillian, Leah, Caroline J! Everyone loved the mermaid cake! And Matthew was especially festive!
Maggie really enjoyed her ballet lessons with Miss Mary at the Apex Community Center. She was a little shy at the recital, but she was very good at all of the skills!
In June, we started the trip of a "lifetime"! We swapped houses with the Jackson family in Scotland and spent 2 months in Europe! London, Edinburgh, Switzerland, Germany
We loved seeing Buckingham Palace and the changing of the Guard. The kids managed to jump in front of one of the troops for a quick photo. Unfortunately, we didn't see the Queen herself.
Westminster Abbey was one of the most interesting stops in all of Europe! We were amazed by the history.
Scotland was next on our journey. It really is a land of castles! Everywhere we went, we saw both working estates, as well as the remnants of governments past. We loved learning the history at each stop. And we were left wondering, why can't WE live in a castle?
The Falkirk Wheel was one of our first stops. It is an amazing system that replaces about a dozen locks that would take hours to get a boat uphill. The Falkirk wheel works in about 15 minutes. Look it up! It's fascinating!
We stayed in a town called Bathgate, which is situated about halfway between Edinburgh and Glasgow. We were able to scoot about and see amazing countryside. | The kids really loved the little park in the city that had this red swing. They have plans to get Papa to build one for them!
While we were there, Ron Lewis came over with his family to celebrate Nathan's graduation from The University of Ediburgh. It was a reunion for us! | We spent a few really great days with the Burkholder family. We drove through the area where "Braveheart" was filmed, went to Loch Ness and visited the Queen's castle, Holyrood.
One of our favorite spots on the trip was Linlithgow, the castle of Mary, Queen of Scots. We loved wandering through the halls!
We loved every view of the castle. And the kids loved feeding the swans outside. | We also enjoyed learning the history of Mary Queen of Scots. You should read up on it! | One of our favorite spots for nosh was The Four Marys in Linlithgow. We liked Cullen Skink and Banofee Pie!
Sterling Castle was another great stop. This place was brimming with history, and it was a fun chance to see falconry and tapestry weaving at work.
Nearby was the William Wallace Monument. I think this was Wayne's favorite spot in all of Scotland. | It was incredible actually to stand on the ground where such important battles were fought.
We accidentally happened up on some highland games. It was tons of fun to watch! And the bagpipe band seemed to bring out the Scotsman in Wayne!
We visited a castle ruin on Loch Ness. | We were there with the Burkholders...jailbirds, all of us! The kids kept a keen eye out for ol' Nessie!
We enjoyed climbing the King's Seat - a small mountain overlooking Edinburgh and Holyrood, the Queen's Castle.
Of course, no trip to Scotland would be complete without a stop in St. Andrews - home of golf! It was a cold, rainy day...nothing a stout pint couldn't cure!
There are too many memories to document! We had so much fun in Scotland! We all look forward to another trip there someday - despite the weather! It was summer--but ,oh, so cold! Must be the Haggis that keeps 'em strong!
Next stop, Germany! | We visited Werner and Julie Pfau and their girls.
We had so much fun seeing Germany with the Pfaus! We went hiking, visited cute little towns and sampled some of Germany's finest fares! We had the honor of eating breakfast at Mrs. Pfau's house every morning - how do you say "Amazing" in German? | Our children had such a blast with Tory, Maddie and the baby. We also met Werner's brother Wolfie and his family. Wayne has always dreamed of seeing the Black Forrest with Werner - one dream down, hundreds more to go!
We had so much fun outdoors! But we were every bit American! Wayne was ramming into some boys in a paddle boat, letting them know that the American kicked their backsides!
One of our all-time favorite things to ride is the summer luge! Matthew led the pack! | Matthew also tried this trampoline/harness thing! He was trying hard to get 3 flips in!
Our last thing to do was to find an authentic piece of Black Forrest cake! It had a little more alcohol than we expected! But the guys seemed to love it just the same! We hated saying goodbye but hope to make it back there one day when Werner and his family are visiting again.
We ended our European trip in Switzerland! We stayed with Bruno and Ursula Amgwerd and their daughters, Anina and Merit. Switzerland is full of so many picturesque places. We spent most of our time around Zurich.
We had a great time with Bruno's family at a zoo in Zurich where we could pet all the animals. Wayne met up with an old girlfriend!
Matthew and Maggie had fun feeding all of the animals.
Wayne managed to be cussed out (in English) by a Swiss man for peddling this boat near some swimmers... | On our last day there, we rented a small motorboat (no, not the yacht pictured here) and rode around the "Zurich Sea".
And with that, we made our final ausfahrt, uh...exit..., from Europe. After being gone for so long, we were exhausted but thrilled with the experiences!
Matthew had his 10th birthday party at an ice rink in Cary, NC. His guests included Jaylen, Alex, Christian, Clayton, Andrew, Caleb, Peter and John. | A good time was had by all! - including the girls! Nathaniel Martin's b'day was at the same time, same place! More boys, more fun!
Wayne's dad unfortunately was hospitalized in Rome for about 2 weeks. Wayne flew over to help see about his medical care and to get him back to the U.S.
Tucked in the middle of everything else, Maggie lost her first tooth! Her toothfairy found us at the beach (because we lit a special candle) and gave her quite a decent price! | Have you ever seen such a pretty smile?
Wayne and Linda had the opportunity to visit Argentina with Gloria. The trip was wonderful! We've never eaten so much red meat in our lives! We especially loved the great flea markets in the parks near our hotel.
There was a beautiful park near the convention center that housed a Japanese garden. We had a great lunch there. We also had fun at a "gaucho" dinner...we feasted on - you guessed it - meat!!! But it was wonderfully cooked!
We went to China with Gloria later in the year. She had medical meetings, and Wayne and Linda went to "scout out the land" for a move in 2008. We took in a few of the sites of Beijing.
Gloria received an award at a dinner. She knew that the smog was horrible and wore a mask nearly all the time when we were outdoors! So cute!
We ate at a Tibetan restaurant in Beijing. The yak was delicious! | There was so much to sqeeze in...highest atrium...tallest statue...
...and next thing you know, we were in Singapore! This was the view from our hotel window. It was hot and humid! | We actually ran into old friends - Kay and Julie Hiramine. We had fun catching up!
Wayne surprised me with a few days in Bali - a dream of mine! It was a beautiful place. Our hotel was the nicest one I've ever seen. | I really loved these little "bales"for lounging in the sun. Everything was so relaxing.
And just like that...our year was over! We had so much fun in 2007! One can only hope that 2008 will be just as exciting!
