FC: 2011 MICHIGAN TECH ALUMNI REUNION FRED'S 50TH YEAR!
We began our trip to Houghton by stopping at the Ford Center in Alberta, Michigan. Fred bought a new book, "The History of Pequaming."
A visit to the Dee Stadium in Houghton. This is where the Portage Lakes used to play Hockey. Fred is outside the door and in front of the wonderful pictorial that spans across the front, outside wall with the history of the Dee Stadium and also many old photos.
Laurn Grove Hockey Team played the year Fred graduated from Tech in 1961
This is a photo of a piece of copper art that is shaped like the Upper Peninsula. It was hanging on the wall of the hotel we stayed at and made by a local artist. The photo above is Mt. Ripley ski hill in Hancock.
This was the view from Fred and Kate's hotel window...Many hours were spent sitting on this bench and watching the boats, clouds, and people. Great spot! Note, Fred is on the bench.
Kate and Fred had a suite at the hotel. Fred had a bedroom with a separate air control. Kate liked her room much cooler, and Fred would have to cover up when he came to Kate's room!
Fred and Kate in front of the Portage Lift Bridge from the deck of the Downtowner Restaurant.
The Portage Lift Bridge was built in 1959 and replaced a 54 year old Swing Bridge. Snowmobiles use the lower deck in the Winter.
Thursday morning, first day of events, we started with breakfast at the M.U.B. | Fred looking GOOD in his new Michigan Tech. Alumni cap! | Meal time was a great time to meet Fred's classmates. | We had some delicious meals and met many people!
After breakfast, Fred met Emil Szten, also a Civil Major. | One of two presentations we attended in a classroom-and no Homework!
Thursday evening, we went to the Pasty Picnic outside at Tech. The Husky Mascot, inspite of being very warm, was having a good time with folks!
Fred and Doug Walli knew each other from Tech. Their photos were always getting mixed up with one anothers! We finally had found Doug during the reunion and got photos!
The Pasty Picnic! Thursday afternoon at Michigan Tech.
Fred received his Golden M Club Pin and Certificate from President Mroz, Friday at the Award's Banquet.
After the Awards Banquet, we had some time before our next event, so we walked around Michigan Tech. Campus. We found this very tall and beautiful tree and had fun taking photos!
We also found this area with thousands of fabric dedications of some type. Some were stories, some were about family members, all were very special.
We then headed over to the Houghton County Marina in Hancock for a boat ride on the R/V Agassiz Mich. Tech Research Boat.
Fred had a great time sitting in the Captain's seat! The Quincy Mine Smelter in Hancock is undergoing a clean-up project.
Fred and Kate had a great four days on their trip to the Michigan Tech Alumni Reunion! Congratulations Dad! 1961-2011~~~~~50 years!
