Congo | We traveled to the Congo on Thanksgiving Day 2012. We stayed one night in Washington D.C. before boarding a plane to Africa. The plane was empty and we were able to spread out and enjoy the ride. Our first glimpse of Caden and Alayna was when we opened the trunk of the van and their 4 little chocolate eyes peered expectantly over the back seats. Alayna was a little scared at first. Caden was eager to give hugs and begin the bonding process. Our first night was dinner at Didiers house with the Dresdows. The second night was Amy's favorite. We devoured instant Camping dinners and white rice with our family and the Dresdows.
We had an amazing time on the compound. I spent my days with Caden and Alayna at the orphanage visiting all the kids and getting to know Mama Andelic. Dan spent the days with Didier getting the paperwork ready for our departure.
Dan was able to build a basketball court for the compound. He worked with Emery. They were able to put it together with with "old school" tools. It came it out perfectly. We enjoyed our trips to town. The rain created enormous puddles and driving felt like a roller coaster.
The rain in the Congo is unlike any other rain storm we have been in. Within minutes the ground vanished into a lake. Caden and Alayna enjoyed running and splashing around. One of my favorite moments of the trip, besides getting to know Caden and Alayna was giving Tobias the book his family in America made for him. He smiled form ear to ear.
We were sad to leave. We had such an amazing time in the Congo. We loved the sunsets and people. We were blessed. There was this beautiful pregnant lady that cleaned our home everyday. She had two of the cutest boys I have ever seen. I loved hanging out with them. Our flight home was long, very long. Caden and Alayna were wonderful, but the flight was still long. The best part of our voyage home was watching Caden's first experiences with the electric hand drier and ice water.
 Welcome to America
After a long flight we were greeted at the airport by so many friends. We were blessed. Caden and Alayna were showered with love, posters and balloons. It was an amazing time. He received 10 stitches Urgent Care above his right eye.
