Gram, | I love you so much! Happy 80th!

Grama, I love you so much! You are one of the biggest influences in my life. I know I wouldn't have come out so well if not for your love, and support! You taught me to love cooking and eating good food, singing, travel, tradition, entertaining, and most of all-family! You are the keystone of our family! Your love of life is inspiring, and I hope to be as awesome and active as you when I'm your age. My earliest memory is of shucking corn with you and Papa on the back porch steps on Wheatland Avenue. My first trip was to Minnesota with you when I was 4! How cool?! That McDonald's over the highway was, and still is, the coolest McDonald's I have ever been in. I will also never forget the time we were driving up to Uncle Paul's discussing California's cow population and came over the rise to see cows forever and ever. There are so many memories I have of us together, and with the family, holidays, Trinity, Big Fish Lake, 1061, 125, the Fulton, driving to choir... you have been such a huge part of my life, I am unable to imagine the fabric of my life without you. Thank you for your unconditional love, support, and understanding. I love you more than words could ever say. Xoxxo, Alice Louise

"Bye Baby Bunting Daddy's gone a hunting, To catch a little rabbit skin To wrap his precious bundle in..." I will never forget your green robe or your rock-a-byes. Xoxxo

Grandma Louise is a great woman. I am not a woman, but she is still a role model for all of her grandchildren. She has a dedication to her family and a wealth of experience and wisdom. Reflecting on her life, as she must do at times, I'm sure she may think of how she endured the poverty of the Great Depression and growing up with so many siblings on a farm-- the hardship of WWII-- her marriage to a Naval Officer and engine that caught on fire on her flight to Alaska, the rise and fall of the Cold War and the current War on Terrorism. Equally, she may question how she was able to survive living in a house with five males for so many years! She's worn many hats over the years, and I'm sure I 'm missing more than a few, but what I see defining Gram is her role as a wife, mother, teacher and matriarch of our family. Family has always been a top priority for her, and she is the glue that has kept the Franzes together. Gram has always given me a loving reception from my earliest memories whenever and wherever I show up-- which was especially wonderful in my adolescent years. One of my earliest memories of Gram was when we went on our grandma trip to Huntington, WV to visit Ms. Reva. Helping with her gardening at her house was fun and allowed me to know her more during my teen years and first few summers at college. This is when I discovered how interesting she is to talk to. She gives me perspectives from her generation and geography (Minnesota) that I couldn't get otherwise. These days, I go over to Gram's apartment to talk and enjoy some of the same shows she likes (House Hunters Int'l and Food Network). I'll never forget the great family gatherings she's hosted for all of us over the years, and the great amount of time and effort she's put into the production of such events. Thank you for your continual family minded efforts, company, and love. I hope your 80th birthday is your best yet! Love, Jack

Dear Gram- Growing up with only two living grandparents, one who lived very far away, I thought I was missing out on something... it didn’t take me long to realize I wasn’t necessarily missing out, I was blessed with a super grama! For 24 years you have loved, gave, cared, supported, encouraged, listened, cooked, hugged, and advised me without skipping a beat! The energy you have at 80 years old, keeping up with all your family members and social commitments, makes me realize age really isn’t anything but a number! Thank you for always making family a priority, this is something I have learned from you and cherish. The memories I have growing up at your house, running around with the cousins under the apple tree will always be among my favorites! I love you Gram, you deserve the best birthday, and every day! Love, Liz

"Families are like fudge ... mostly sweet with a few nuts." | Happy 80th Birthday Louise! Love, Jill | WEST COAST FRANZES

Mom- There are many good memories of what you have done for me and my family. I always knew that I could count on you if I needed help. I remember when I was 18 and moved to Florida, you came out to the car and gave me a twenty dollar bill and told me to hide it in my wallet and use it to have a good meal and call you if I was broke and hungry. I had that 20$ for many, many years. Thank you for being such a good mother, you ha’ve shown me the way to be a good parent to my kids. I love you Mom, #2

My favorite memory of Grandma was when she brought us to Norway for Christmas and we played the card game ‘3 Queens’ every night after a hard day of skiing and snowplay. I love you Grandma! Nick | My favorite memory of Grandma is when she brought us to Norway and played games with us at night as well as providing us a nice, warm meal when we got back from skiing. Love you Grandma, Cal

MAKING MEMORIES | "I won'’t ever forget the time when me, grandma, and my dad went to Heidiland in Maienfeld. Me and my dad had been there before. I showed Grandma Heidi and Peter. I also showed her Grandpa and Peter’s sheep.I showed her many things and hope we can go back there again! I love you Grandma!" -Vanessa

Happy 80th Birthday Louise! Love, Cindy

So, what can I say about the woman who brought me into this world? Mom, you have been my lodestone as to how to live my life. Be true to yourself while giving freely of your time and knowledge. Enjoy the little things that make you smile and worry not on matters beyond your control. Hold yourself proudly and be a brightness when all around is gloom. Love your children unconditionally no matter what their actions are. These are the values which you have imbued to me. For this I am grateful. You will always be Mom to me and I will always Love you. #3
