FC: 2011-2012 Bordner Family Memories

Tim has SURGERY! | On October 19, 2011, Tim had to have surgery to correct a deviated septum and about four or five other problems he had with his nose. His parents took him to surgery that day, and I got to take care of him when he came home. He had to have pain pills, an ice pack, antibiotics, and two nasal sprays. I also had to change the gauze under his nose every few hours since he had LOTS of drainage. His pain wasn't too bad when he got home, but he was miserable for days afterwards!

 Carving Pumpkins!

Brenna wanted me to carve a pumpkin face she saw in our special carving book. | Emily wanted me to carve a cat she found on the Internet. I think my creations turned out great.! | On October 23, the girls and I went to buy pumpkins at a farm on Rutter Road. Since Tim was unable to help carve pumpkins and I'm not great at carving, I asked the girls if they wanted to get two pumpkins to paint and decorate instead. Then they had the bright idea to get two pumpkins to paint, two pumpkins to carve, and a family pumpkin to carve. I said no way. So they got mad at me. In retaliation, they found the biggest pumpkins they could find, and I spent $24 on two pumpkins.

A Visit from Mamaw and Papaw | Papaw teaches Emily to play chess. | Mamaw can never resist buying the girls new dresses!

At Halifax Elementary, the fifth graders have a pumpkin contest, with awards being given in categories such as 'Funniest,' 'Most Human Like,' etc. Emily paired up with Adriana Knauss, one of her best friends, and designed a Mrs. Frankenstein pumpkin. Unfortunately, theirs wasn't chosen to be displayed in the school's lobby, but we all thought they did a great job. Mrs. Frankenstein was on display at our house for the whole week of Halloween.

Halloween Fun | Brenna was in the Halifax Halloween parade on October 26. Her float was celebrating the Girl Scouts' 100th birthday, so she walked as a candle. I walked with her while Tim, Emily, and the grandparents watched.

Trick or Treat | Emily and Brenna love Halloween and the annual Harker Halloween party. This year Emily was a spy, and Brenna dressed up as Taylor Swift, her favorite singer. With her wig, Brenna fooled everyone at the party; everyone kept asking Emily, "Where's your sister?" Emily just laughed, pointed and said, "She's right there!"

Brenna's 'Wacky Day' Classroom Halloween Party!

Brenna and Jessica | Brenna requested that that she bring cheesy popcorn to the party. | Miss Miller spins Brenna around when the class plays "Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin." | Brenna's class enjoys the party.

Emily and Brenna love to go trick-or-treating. Every year, we walk with the Harkers and the Flickingers, but this year Tim took them alone (the Harkers couldn't go and it was too cold for me!). Afterwards, they traveled to Delview Drive to see Great-Aunt Donna and the Wilburs. Like always, the girls collected ALOT of candy! | THE BIG NIGHT!

Trick or Treat | Not sure what Emily is doing, but it's hysterical...

Paige Miller and Kiersten Sabolsky came trick or treating, along with Colin and Christian Sabolsky. | The Flickingers | Rachel scared me half to death when she got in my face and wouldn't speak. I didn't know it was her.

While Tim and I were at a Penn State game, Halifax was hit with an unexpected snowstorm. At least 10 inches fell, and Emily and Brenna had a blast. Mamaw and Papaw had to borrow our warmer clothes (since they didn't bring any), so they could go out and play with their grandchildren.

Emily, Brenna, Mamaw, and Papaw built a family of snowmen, which greeted Tim and me when we returned home. | Brenna put herself in charge of cleaning the snow off the plants so that they wouldn't die. | Our mums are safe, thanks to Brenna! | Our butterfly bush is collapsing, despite efforts to remove the snow. | Snowy Fun

Brenna made her own family of snowmen: Emily, me, Tim, and herself. She decided to sit on the one that represented me.

Emily and Brenna decided to make chairs out of snow. Quite a good idea! Then they could relax after building all of those snowmen! | Snow,Snow,Snow!

Emily, Brenna, and I had a snowball fight with Daddy and Papaw.

The snow was just too heavy for some of these branches. | Winter Wonderland

Brenna's snow family | Building the snowmen | More fallen branches

 Merry Christmas 2011

 Let the fun begin!

Emily with her gifts | Brenna with her gifts

Brenna gets Barbies and clothes for her American Girl doll, Natalie.

Emily gets books and a "sound" remote that makes noises, such as 'soap opera drama' (as depicted by Emily in the last picture!).

 New DS games

Brenna gets an MP3 player from Mamaw, and Emily is jealous. Open your next gift, Emily... | Brenna gets Zoobles, so she and Emily decide to play. | The Liv doll spa!

Emily gets Webkinz endangered species pets: a panda and a wolf. | Could it be a broom, Brenna? Maybe a Firebolt? | Emily gets a doorbell for her room!

Turkey Dinner and a game of Monopoly! | After our turkey dinner, we all decided to play with our gifts. Emily challenged Mamaw and Grammy to a game of Monopoly, where she "monopolized" the game and won by a landslide!

Emily won her gingerbread house kit at the Martz Christmas party, and Brenna's kit was one left over from last year. Brenna's came together easily, but Emily's had some problems! She did manage to make a gingerbread lady of me, though - complete with special shoes and buttons in my favorite color (orange).

 HAPPY | NEW YEAR

HAPPY 2012! | Every year, Brad and Stephanie Harker throw a New Year's Eve party. This year, we had a pajama theme, and everyone brought in the New Year in their comfy pjs. All of us (Tim, Emily, Brenna, and I; Brad, Stephanie, Tyler, and Abigail Harker, Ed, Sandy, Cole, and Jack Schlegel; Matt, Rachel, Kaitlin, Maddy, and Grace Flickinger; Jim and Cheryl Frank; Dave and Dawn Kolva; Rafe and Lindsay Smith; George, Amy, and Trent Yatsky; and Clint, Caden, and Kylah Funk) had a great time talking, laughing, playing a Chinese gift exchange, singing, and celebrating the new year.

 Fun in the Snow!

Emily and Brenna got to play in the snow during a short snowstorm we had in January. Brenna made snowballs, while Emily concentrated on making an igloo. Brenna had fun sliding down the Bilco doors, while Emily cried because Tim allowed someone to plow our driveway, which was her first choice for igloo building.

 Happy 11th Birthday, Emily!

Emily chose to have her birthday party at the Bounce Funplex in Selinsgrove, Pa. All of her closest friends came, and had a great time bouncing! | Emily, Brenna, Adriana and Serena Knauss, Lexi Meko, Tyler and Jacob Berzowski, Brock Harris, Maddy Flickinger, Tyler Harker, Mazie Dee, and Emily's new "boyfriend" Caden Minnich bounced, played games, and ate pizza and cake at the Funplex.

At Emily's party, the kids all bounced together, played a 'dodgeball' type activity, and had races together in one of the pits.

Emily's birthday continued with a sleepover at our house. Emily, Brenna, Adriana, Serena, Lexi, Maddy, and Mazie sang karaoke, made ice cream sundaes, played "Family" in the basement (Lexi was the mom to everyone), watched a 3D movie on our new big screen TV, and had a great time together.

 Happy Valentine's Day!

We celebrated Valentine's Day by having one of our favorite meals: Chicken Macaroni. We ate from our special 'Celebrate' plates, and I made a yellow heart cake with chocolate icing for dessert. I decorated cards for the girls, and we gave them $10 each. The girls also brought home their valentines bag (Emily) and box (Brenna) to look at their valentines from their classmates. Emily's 'boyfriend,' Caden Minnich, gave her a soft, pink dog that she named 'Lovepuppy.'

Father/Daughter Dance with the Girl Scouts | Brenna invited her daddy to the Father/Daughter dance that her Brownie troupe sponsored. Brenna didn't dance, but she loved to play with the balloons and eat the food!

 Dancing with Balloons!!

The Murphy's Super Bowl Party Giants vs. Patriots

Emily, Brenna, Jessica, Olivia, and Finn played while Kim, Mike, Michelle, Kevin, Tim, and I watched the game and played a special Bingo game that involved spotting special events during the Super Bowl commercials.

Great-Grandpa loves to celebrate his birthday at Front Street Station, because he gets to eat the lobster tail for lunch and the big ice cream sundae for dessert.! This year, he celebrated with me, Tim, Emily, Brenna, Betty, Glenn, Laurie, Logan, Joan, and Seak. | Great-Grandpa's Birthday at Front Street Station

 Celebrating Birthdays! (AGAIN!)

Our Kitties: | Ranger | Birlene | Patchy | We adopted Birlene and Ranger in 2009. Emily and Brenna found Patchy outside our house one day in 2010, and decided to feed him, unbeknownst to us. He's been ours ever since...

 HAPPY BIRTHDAY

PINATA! Emily discovered this cupcake pinata, and knew that it would be perfect for Brenna's party. It took lots and lots of turns, but the pinata eventually broke and everyone got their candy!
