FC: Jeff, Sara and Family
We are Jeff and Sara and we want to thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. We would like to start by expressing our respect, admiration, and thanks for your courage right now. We can't imagine the feelings you have or will experience in your decision to plan an adoption for your child. We are excited that you would consider us as loving parents and we pray that this book will give you a glimpse of who we are as a family.
Jeff has blond hair and hazel eyes. His height is 5'11" weighing 220 pounds. He is 38 years old. He attended college for two years before beginning his lifelong dream of becoming a police officer. | Jeff has worked as a police officer for 14 years working around 50 hours each week. | Jeff | Jeff's hobbies are hunting, archery, woodworking, and working on projects around the house.
Sara has brown hair and hazel eyes. She is 5'4" weighing 125 lbs. She is 37 years old and has a Bachelor's Degree. Her degree is in elementary education with a kindergarten endorsement. | If she returns to work part time, childcare will be provided by grandparents and church daycare. | Sara | Sara is a stay-at-home mother. She is using her degree to educate their three children at home. | Sara's hobbies are reading, gardening, shopping with friends, and decorating.
Sara is the kindest, most compassionate and loving person I have ever known. She always puts everyone else's needs ahead of her own. She loves the outdoors and shares that love with our children every chance she gets. She is the most amazing mother to our children, showing a love that is unparalleled. She is an amazing teacher to our children, as she is very good at tailoring her teaching style to each child's specific needs. She is a very Godly woman, and the glue that binds us together as a family. | It is hard to put all Daniel is into words. I can barely remember life before him and couldn't imagine life without him. Daniel is one of the smartest people I know. He can remember so much! He is very handy and can build or fix anything. One of the things that draws people to him is his quick wit and humor. He always keeps me laughing! Daniel is a godly man. He is so disciplined to spend time with God everyday and pray about what's going on in his life. Children love Daniel (or Dan-Dan as our friend's children call him). He will be a great father because of the way he loves and the knowledge he has to teach a child as they grow. | About Sara by Jeff
If I had to define Rachel in one word it would be selfless. I have never known someone so willing to give of themselves like she does. Her service to our church's mercy team and service guild highlights her heart for other people. She is so talented and creative that our friends always ask her to plan and decorate their baby showers. Despite our struggles with infertility, and her personal pain, she is still willing to give of herself to help others. That's how I know she is going to be a wonderful mother. Her personal sacrifice goes largely unnoticed, and sometimes unthanked. Yet despite this, she continues to give of herself. Her life is an example of "love your God with all your heart your soul and your mind and to love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:37-39). | About Jeff by Sara | It's hard to put all that Jeff is into words. I barely remember life before him and couldn't imagine life without him. Jeff is one of the most respectful people I know. He treats others as he would like to be treated. He is very handy and can build and fix anything. One of the things that draws people to him is his quick wit and humor. He keeps me laughing! Jeff is a godly man. He is so disciplined to spend time with God everyday and pray about what's going on in his life. Our children love and adore him. He is a great father because of the way he loves and the respect he has for them as he teaches each child as they grow.
We met in high school in 1990. We were high school sweethearts and we knew, even back then, that we would share our lives together. Jeff proposed on Christmas Eve in 1995. The wedding was in September of 1996 and was a wonderful day. It was beautiful to see all the people that have known and supported us as we grew up. After a honeymoon to Gatlinburg, we moved into our rental home. Jeff took some college classes and worked full time. Sara also went to college and worked full time. Life was busy as Jeff's policing carrier was taking off, but we were looking to what the future held after Sara graduated from college. | 1996 | 1995 | 1990 | we met | engaged | married | Our Story
2008 | 2005 | 2003 | 2002 | built our home | Olivia born | Nate born | Josh born | In 2002 Sara graduated college and it was time to start a family. We were very excited to build our home in the same community that we grew up in. While building our home we became pregnant with our fist child. However, that pregnancy ended in a heartbreaking miscarriage. The Lord did bless us after that with three healthy children. We felt led in 2011 to add to our family with another child. This time, however, we felt led to answer James 1:27, calling us to adopt a child into our family that the Lord has so graciously blessed.
Olivia 10 years old | Our Children | Joshua 8 years old | Nathan 5 years old | We are excited to have a new sibling!
Children are a heritage from the Lord. Psalm 127:3 We have been blessed with three healthy biological children from the Lord. Olivia is our oldest with a take charge personality. She is very goal oriented which can be seen in her school work and extra curricular activities. She enjoys playing the piano, playing on her softball team, writing, working on 4-H projects, riding horses at her Grammy's, and serving at home, at church and in our community. Joshua is our oldest son and most sensitive and loving child. He cares about others needs and makes sure everyone is taken care of before himself. He enjoys playing the violin, playing on his football team, hunting with his dad, working on 4-H projects and math. Nathan is our youngest and most mischievous and energetic child. He is always laughing and giving hugs and kisses. He enjoys playing the violin, playing on his t-ball team, learning to read, Legos and playing outside. We have felt the call to homeschool our children and have been doing so for the last five years. This blessing has enabled us to teach each child according to their learning styles as well as watch them succeed and grow on a daily basis.
Our Church | We attend a Non-Domination Christian Church that has been around for 165 years on the same country corner. We are involved in their ministries with Jeff serving as head-trustee, Sara as the Christian Education Director, and both of us serving as marriage mentors. We love our contemporary service and classes for all ages. | We are blessed to have a church family that have a lot young families. These are our closest friends whom we enjoy spending time with outside of Sunday mornings. Some of the activities we do together are camping, bowling, skating, movie nights, game nights, hay rides, & much more. | Camping out is such a great time.
Our Small Group | The Group | Our faith is very important to us and has truly grown though our small group Bible study. They are both our core group of friends and our support system. We have been so blessed to have these men and women for the past two years in our lives. Most have small children and babies who always love a new playmate!
Grandparents | Sara's dad, Tom, and step-mom, Nastia | Jeff's parents, Dale and Dorothy | Sara's mom, Pam, and step-dad, Allen
We are very close to our families. All of our parents are very active in our children's lives through holidays, birthdays, lunch dates, babysitting, sleepovers and attending all of their activities. They are all very active and are excited about adding to the family. Sara has one sister and two half-brothers. Jeff has one brother. In all we have four nephews and four nieces. We are blessed to have all of our family just a few minutes away.
Our Home | As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15 | View of the back of our home..
We live in a great neighborhood. We are only a few minutes away from family, friends and church. We have sweet neighbors with lots of kids and a very safe, fun environment. We live on a cul-de-sac with a woods and creek in our backyard, making it the perfect spot for children to ride bikes and explore. There are always people out walking and riding bikes. Our home has 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a schoolroom and a large sun room for the children to play. | Lots of room to play in our fenced in backyard.
We are very blessed to have such a close relationship with our parents and extended family. Because they live so close they are very involved in our lives. | Sara with the kids, her sister Kris, and her kids along with half- brothers Matt & Jake, | Sara with her mom, sister Kris, Olivia and cousin Molly. Enjoining lunch at American Girl. | Grandmas, Grandpas, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins | Jeff's dad loves to tease and joke with his grandkids.
Riding Grammy and Allen's horses is one of the kids favorite things to do when they visit. | Olivia with Sara's dad and step-mom at Christmas | Jeff's mom loves spending time with her grandchildren. | Grandma loves watching the kids and having them spend the night.
We always enjoy spending the holidays and birthdays with our families. However, every year since Olivia was one, we have been hosting a 4th of July party at our home for all of our family and friends. We have a cookout, swim, play games, have a parade though our neighborhood, and finish the evening in our backyard watching the fireworks from a nearby park. This is a tradition that everyone looks forward to every year. Here are just a few pictures taken through the years.
Watching the fireworks. | Making memories with family and friends..
Serving | Above: Ringing the bell for the salvation army. Right: Serving at a nursing home | By following the example of Christ, we want to be a service to others. As parents, we feel that this is a habit that can be started at an early age. Along with the pictures shown, we have collected 200 pairs of shoes for Shoes for Orphan Souls, passed out water bottles to show the love of Christ in front of a store, served meals to those in need, served at a homeless shelter's Christmas party, along with other needs in our community and church.
Working with our church family as we do landscaping for Habitat for Humanity.
Going Clockwise... | Polar Express Train, Great Wolf Lodge, Cincinnati Aquarium, Lake Michigan, Air Force Museum, Atlantic Ocean, American Girl Chicago & Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.
Vacations & Field Trips | One of the advantages of homeschooling the children is the ability to take many field trips and vacations. We feel that learning happens not only in a classroom but by seeing and enjoying all of the cultures and fun entertaining things that our community, state and country holds. We enjoy regular trips to the Children's Museum, Zoos, plays, Chicago day trips and field trips with our homeschool co-op. Along with longer trips to Lake Michigan, water parks, the ocean, and Disney World, which we are planning on going back to once we have adopted.
Jeff and Sara enjoying some time together at a Broncos game. | With having three children we know how important it is for us to take time as a couple. Other than having date nights, we try to take a weekend to ourselves. This may be catching Jeff's favorite football team the Broncos play, relaxing at a B&B, or hanging out with our friends. Sara also joins Jeff on his hunting outings while Jeff goes antique shopping with Sara. We also enjoy relaxing at home by watching a movie, or working in the yard. | Getting away for our anniversary. | Enjoying a canoe trip with our small group.
Going through a corn maze.. | When hanging out as a family, we like to be outdoors whenever possible, play a game, cook a meal, or have a movie night. Whatever we are doing to have fun, we enjoy each others company. We are so excited for the chance to bring a child into our family to share the love that we have for each other.
Our Marriage | Our marriage is faith based and very strong. Because we have known each other for so long, our strengths include good communication and the tendency to know what the other is thinking. We have very distinct roles in our marriage: Sara does the laundry, Jeff cuts the grass, Sara keeps the social calendar, Jeff manages the finances. We are a great team and work together to make decisions. Our family goals are to raise our children to love God and to serve others in our home, church and community by bringing them up in a Christian home.
One of the ways that our faith has grown and our marriage has been strengthened is through trusting God in the decision to adopt. We have been like minded on the decision and uplifting to one another throughout the process. We have been very blessed to have our supportive friends and family as we made the decision along with helping us raise the funds needed. Through prayer and guidance we made the decision, and have been blessed through the adoption process. We feel it is a privilege to bring a child into our family just as God brings us into His.
Parenting is something we are already practicing. However, we realize that as our children grow so does our parenting styles. We believe that there must be a balance between discipline and fun. We believe that we have a loving home and we teach our children to be respectful and compassionate to others. | Parenting | Hunting with dad!
Our discipline styles are age appropriate and we are committed to finding a way to make sure our children know that we mean what we say and they can trust us. | We both had great models for parenting with our parents and grandparents. We believe that our different personalities make for a great parenting team. | Discipline
sunny days | We will tell our child about their adoption when it is age appropriate, and we will always be open and honest with them about it. At our church, there are several children who are adopted. Also, Jeff's cousin adopted his sons, Ezra & Addai and daughter,Ayla, and our families are familiar with talking about it. Along with family, we have very close friends who are in the process of adopting internationally. We will make sure our child knows the love of their parents and their Heavenly Father. | Adoption
spring is here! | Baby Girl | We would describe you to your child in a respectful and loving light because of the choice you are making. We will send updates and pictures of your child as long as you desire, as well as be open to visitations. We will always respect your privacy.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
We are so excited about the possibility of sharing our life with your precious child and hope this book has given you a glimpse of what that life would be like. We want you to know that our home is warm and happy and will always be a place of love and encouragement. | Together, will we always celebrate life . . . . and we will always celebrate you. We wish you courage in the days ahead and will pray for the decisions you will make for your child. Thank you for learning more about us. Sincerely, Jeff and Sara
