FC: May 29 - June 5, 2011 | Kempner Alaskan Cruise
Sat May 29, 2011 - We departed Vancouver aboard the Celebrity Century for a 7 day cruise to Alaska. We were celebrating Lyle's retirement, Ouida's 60th birthday and her 10th anniversary of her bone marrow transplant. | We celebrated our departure with some champagne on Lyle & Ouida's balcony. They had been upgraded to a suite one week before the cruise. So exciting!
Above - All of us at dinner the first night on the cruise. We all look pretty happy :) Photos on right - Our first formal night we celebrated Lyle's retirement. Congratulations Dad!
So many fun excursions to make the most of our time in port. Our first stop was Icy Straits. | Cheryl and Wendy went zip lining (so much fun!) while Lyle and Ouida went exploring.
Enjoying our time in Icy Straits after our zip line experience.
Next on the itinerary was a beautiful sunny day to see Hubbard Glacier from the ship.
Two humpback whales, an eagle, sea lions and the Mendenhall Glacier were all part of our experience in Juneau.
Our wildlife tour was followed by a salmon barbeque at Orca Point Lodge.
One of the many gorgeous sunsets we got to enjoy.
More celebrations! Tonight we celebrated Ouida!
Happy 60th and 10th Birthdays Mom! David and Helen (above), and Phil and Irna helped us celebrate too!
Next stop Ketchikan! We went on a tour to see how they use crab pots; it was both informative and interactive.
Our tour was followed by a yummy crab feast at George Inlet Lodge. We won the contest to see which table could create the highest pile of crab legs. Our reward - perform a song and dance in front of everyone!
The Saturday of the cruise was Wendy's birthday. | There was a Canucks playoff game that evening so we celebrated with a lovely birthday lunch and yes, more cake :)
Canucks Fever! The Stanley Cup Finals games 1 and 2 took place while we were on the cruise. We got to watch both games. There were lots of other Canucks fans present, including our new friend Donna! | The Canucks won games 1 and 2. Both games had us on the edge of our seats, especially when the satellite feed cut out!
Much time was spent on the balcony, whether it was just the four of us, or with Phil and Irna. We made the most of our outside space, seeing whales one day, as well as several lovely sunsets.
We arrived home in Vancouver early on June 5th. It was an amazing cruise, full of fun times, celebrations and quality time together. So many memories were created and it will be a family vacation to be treasured for years to come! We love you Mom and Dad! Wendy and Cheryl xoxo
