FC: Your Life with Us in Photos 1980-2009 Happy Birthday June 6, 2009
Sung to The Brady Bunch Theme Song Here's the story, of a lovely lady, Who was bringing up two very lovely girls (and a dude). All of them had hair of brown, Like their mother, a couple of them even feathered. Here's the story, of a man named Cleaves, Who was busy with two boys of his own (and a chick). They were four folks, living all together, but they were all cold. Till the one day when the fellow met this lady, and they knew that this was much more than a hunch. That this group, must somehow form a family. That's the way we all became the Cleaves/Brady Bunch. Try to sing that little ditty. But it is true. Having grown up with this tv show, we always wanted our Mike Brady to show up. There were imposters, suitors, imitators and the like, but no Mike Brady. And then one day, roughly 30 years ago, our Mike Brady, better known as Charles Cleaves, showed up with his children. Our little dysfunctional family perhaps got a little more dysfunctional, but the parties were better, the memories deeper, and our Bunch grew by 4.

Happy 70th Birthday! To try and put forth one paragraph of a momentous event, it would be impossible. Therefore, I have to list many: Our wedding was fabulous from vows to honeymoon The start-up of our company and our very first loan Our years of work and fun racing our dragster all over the west coast Our many trips to Cabo deep sea fishing and partying Our trip to Hawaii - very romantic and kicked off our retirement Our many motor home trips including Key West and the many friends we met The birth of all the grandkids was very exciting and rewarding and watching them grow and become adults more so We have had a wonderful 30 years of living, loving, laughing (a lot) and full of memories.
"I'll have a Western Bacon Cheeseburger"
Steve You have come willingly to my aid on many occasions: Helping me fell a tree in my back yard at Mission Viejo Sending Raul and the raiders to help me finish landscaping my front yard Opening your home for two weeks to Dee, the kids, myself and our two dogs when we moved back from Fresno My favorite memory is after asking you everytime I visited your home for over 3 years, you finally opened the 1997 Chimney Rock Cab! Thanks, Charlie !!
Dee | Happy Birthday!! My favorite memory has to be our river rafting trip. We really got to know each other on that weekend and bonded as a family. I will also always remember you giving me away on my wedding day in your beautiful backyard. But most of all, I will never forget that you gave our boys the experience of having a loving, fun grandfather. Without you, they would not have known a grampy at all, and for that you will always have a special place in my heart. You have been the best Dad to me.
Scotty | My fondest memories of you are undoubtedly hanging out with you at the race track. Feeling like a part of everything and riding in the chase truck as I watched you fly down the track is something I will never forget. Thank you for all your words of encouragement throughout the years and always believing in me.
Kris My favorite Memory of Charlie was when I was 11 years old he told Scott Gilman and I to go fill a bunch of different sized cans, bottles, and whatever we could find that would make a good target and fill them with water. The coolest thing in the world was setting up all of the cans, bottles, buckets, etc. in the back of the old warehouse up in San Clemente and shooting at them one at a time with a Pellet/BB Gun until Scott or I hit one of them and got to watch the liquid (which we sometimes used food coloring for that extra effect) ooze out of the bottle, like the bottle was actually dying. | Ironically, Charlie would teach us a very meticulous and grueling gun code and ethics class prior to each shoot-out. Once we had honed our skills to hitting the cans and bottles nearly every time, Charlie told us to wait while he went into the warehouse to get a surprise, he brought back with him a dozen or so “tiki-men” to shoot at, which we did, for hours. This is where I believe he got the Idea for his famous Bonfire “tiki-man” but that is just a theory at this point.

Christmas 2008 was one of the best get together's we have had with both Shea and I home and a full family at last. You have always made me feel welcome into this family and through everything you have remained steadfast and a friend. | Dale | HAPPY 70TH YOU OLD DOG!
Thank you for being there when I most needed it. You came into our lives as a step-father but never tried to insert yourself into our lives unless we needed it. You are our silent cheerleader. You were there for the birth of my boys and are their only grandfather. You have been the father in my life and I am eternally grateful for you. Thank you for making Mom happy and for being her life partner. Happy 70th Birthday Charlie | Leigh
Grandpa, Happy Birthday! Thank you for being my Grandfather and for your funny stories. I will never forget how you traumatized me on Easter by telling me that the Easter Bunny ate off your finger..... Don't lose anymore body parts!! Love Shea | Shea
Grandpa, You're 70 and still a youngster. What can I say....broken jaw, puree hamburger, coyotes, the couch, laughter and always there if we need you. I love you Grandpa Tyler | Tyler
Brendan Happy Birthday Grandpy from Hop Sing... Thanks for your humor.when you gave me the 100 fortune cookies for Christmas..(haha) and for the joke with the butter and indian girl (I won't tell Mom).. You have been a great Grandpy to me and I want to learn more jokes from you! Stick around another 70 years!
 LAKE MEAD
Scott | You have been my boss at Smythe. Paid for the meals at Sonny's. Poured the strong drinks at dinner. Rooted for me at crew meets. Of many memories my favorite: consoling my mother when I didn't leave the parking brake on her prized Mercedes Coupe and it wedged itself under a truck causing thousands of dollars in damage and convincing her to look beyond the damage | (I assume you had done worse in your lifetime); and driving to Beverly Hills at late night to jump start my car after I drained the battery cavorting with my date. You have been kind, supportive and in my fondest memories, you have been a Father to me.
HAPPY 70TH Charlie! From Vodka to DeDoo's Tom Collins Punch * Hugs and Kisses * Eating slowly at the dinner table * Family boat trip when I was pregnant with Garrett * Visits to the Desert house * A TERRIFIC grandpa * You have always been a wonderful support * With love on your birthday and always. Deanna | DEANNA
NICOLE I think my best grampy memories are just staying up late, whether it was in San Clemente or even the last trip to Arizona, and staying up late talking. Talking about his life, him and grammy, or me growing up. He always has funny useful advise, and always has something really awesome and nice to say that makes me feel like a million bucks :)
Lauren My favorite memory was when I was little around the age of 5 to 7, I wouldn't want Grampy to touch me with his hand that didn't have a finger. We would have to take pictures and I would freak out if grabbed me with his deformed hand. But now that I am older, I know that it doesn't matter and that Grampy can hold my hand anytime.
Last year, we visited Grandpa at the desert. And while we were waiting for Little Gary, a bird hit the window at full speed and dropped dead to the ground. Grandpa said, "Don't worry, that happens all the time." And we all started laughing. That is Grandpa, always having fun and making the best out of any occasion. | G A R R E T T
