FC: 2010 - 2011. A year in review.

1: Life brings simple pleasures to us every day. It is up to us to make them wonderful memories.

6: Dr. J. P. Shim Georgia State University John Grisham Faculty Master Teacher Professor of Management Information Systems (MIS) Larry and Tonya Favreau Notable Scholar Mississippi State University Dr. J. P. Shim is John Grisham Professor (tenured) of MIS and Director of International Business Strategy Program at Mississippi State University. He received his PhD. from University of Nebraska, MBA from Seoul National University, and completed Harvard Business Executive Education. He taught Information Systems at Georgia State University (in 1991), New York University (in 1998), and Chinese University of Hong Kong (in 2000-2001) as an invited Visiting Professor. He received grants and awards, including National Science Foundation, U.S. EPA, Microsoft, Booz Allen, Mississippi Institution of Higher Learning, Japan Foundation, and Korea Foundation. He is a fifteen (15)-time recipient of outstanding faculty/research/service awards, StatePride Award, and the university’s Ralph E. Power Research Excellence Award. Dr. Shim’s coauthored research paper in DSS has been cited as top in Social Science Citation Index citations, Google Scholar citations, Elsevier citations, SCOPUS citations, and downloads in DSS.

7: He has co-authored 5 books and 150 articles, including Journal of Association for Information Systems (JAIS), European Journal of Information Systems(EJIS), Communications of the ACM, IEEE, Decision Support Systems, Interfaces, Omega, Journal of Strategic Information Systems, Information & Management, Human Relations, Journal of the Operational Research Society, Computers & Operations Research, Journal of MCDA, and Communications of AIS (CAIS). He is Senior Editor, Associate Editor, Departmental Editor, and Editorial Board for numerous journals. He served as a Keynote Speaker and Program Chair at several international conferences. He is currently Program Chair and Fellow Chair of an international wireless telecommunication professional organization (WTS). He has lectured frequently at numerous universities, research institutes, and companies in numerous countries (over 33 different countries). Over the past two decades, Dr. Shim’s grant efforts helped support research, service, and teaching the in the college as he served as the principal investigator for more than $2M in funded grants from various sources. Dr. Shim is a member of numerous university and college committees, including University Faculty Research Advisory Committee. He served as Chair of University Research Initiation Program Committee, chaired Ralph Powe Junior Faculty Award Committee, and chaired several college committees, served on MSU Alumni Outstanding Faculty Selection Committee. He chaired more than 20 doctoral dissertations. Professor Shim currently directs MSU Global Leadership Program.

8: As MSU's Regional Ambassador to Far East Asia, he has built a strong relationship with Korean institutions and to develop "2+2" dual degree program and student exchange program which have been implemented since 1995. He has visited a number of Korean universities and MSU Korean Alumni Chapter meetings to further develop this dual degree and exchange student program, based on a formal agreement between MSU and a dozen Korean colleges/universities. Currently, the exchange students spend 2 to 3 years in each degree program. In addition to the program, over 300 Korean college students and faculty members have visited MSU over the past decade. He is serving on the MSU International Committee and has been invited to deliver speech at 2010 MSU Diversity conference. As a part of MSU International Initiative, he has devoted a considerable amount of time to launching and directing the Global Leadership Program: Korea Study Tour. Currently, he directs MSU Global Leadership Program, which was initiated in 2007. Through an application process, a total of approximately 155 MSU students have completed the 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 program. In 2009 and 2010, the Korea Study Tour program was expanded to include Japan and Hong Kong study tour programs as well. He also started the international business executives program (IBSP) that is designed to work with Korean small business executives and owners. The program provides leadership and assistance for international groups seeking knowledge about U.S. business practices. The IBSP participants can earn a certificate and MSU alumni membership by successfully completing the training. Since 1991, more than 350 Korean business men and women have participated. He has since also developed several other similar programs. In sum, Dr. Shim's unwavering passion for strengthening diversity, building relationships and creating global understanding among many diverse groups is evidenced throughout Mississippi State University. 9: 2011 Diversity Award Faculty Recipient | SHOWING THEIR TRUE SPIRIT — The MSU President's Commission on the Status of Minorities recently honored students and staff who exemplify the spirit of diversity at the university. Shim, faculty award winner, College of Business. The three were hosted at a recognition dinner Feb. 23.

10: 2010-07-15 J. P. Shim (M&IS) has been invited to deliver his plenary speech on "Mobile/Wireless Technology, IT Contents, and Decision Support Systems” in International River and Water Resources Forum in Korea. He is one of few invited speakers/experts in Wireless Telecom, IT contents, Culture, River, and Water Resources. The invited speakers are Administration and Council Representatives as well as Scholars from China (Beijing University), Egypt, Peru, Korea, and United States. His short trip (in early August 2010) and travel expenses will be covered by the Korean Government. He served on the (Republic of Korea) Advisory Council on Democratic and Peaceful Unification. | Dr. J.P. 11: 2010.08.07. J. P. Shim (M&IS) will hold a Colloquia: “Understanding more about Japanese Culture, Business, and Information Technology," funded by Japan Foundation. As a part of his recent Japan Foundation grant, he invited Yoshi Matsui (a Senior Professor of Operations Management from Yokohama National University in Japan). Scheduled to begin at 3:00pm on Aug 19, Professor Matsui's presentation, "salient characteristics of Japanese culture, business, and IT", in the John Grisham Library is open to the public. J. P. has been invited to Japan numerous occasions, including positions as one of senior distinguished U.S. Professors for Japan Study Tour sponsored by AACSB and Nippon Keidanren, e-business program co-chair sponsored by NSF, invited speaker at numerous Japanese universities, and MSU Global Leadership Program director for Korea/Japan Study Tour. | Dr. Shim will be holding a Colloquia: "Understanding more about Japanese Culture, Business, and Information Technology"

12: J. P. Shim (M&IS) has been invited to the 2010 International Logos Management Conference as the Keynote Speaker on Ubiquitous/Embedded/Pervasive Computing in Web 2.0. A number of pan-pacific university presidents and international scholars will be participating in the 8th annual international conference. | Dr. J.P. Shim announced as the Program Chair for the 2013 Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) Chicago Meeting | 2010.08.23 -- J. P. Shim (M&IS) has been listed/chosen as a Senior Member at Association for Information Systems (AIS) at the recent 2010 Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS). It was officially announced that he would serve as Program Chair for the 2013 AMCIS Chicago meeting. He will be overseeing 45 track chairs, 120+ mini track chairs, and other conference-related sessions.

Shim (M&IS) has been invited to deliver his research work on "Technical Decision Support Systems” in an Interdisciplinary Cognitive Science Workshop (200+ researchers from artificial intelligence, neuroscience, cognitive science, computer science and philosophy, and IS) in Berlin, Germany in March 2011. All his travel expenses and accommodation will be covered by the German Institution. | Dr. J.P. Larry and Tonya Favreau Notable Scholar and John Grisham Master Teacher. Abstract The rapidly evolving technological developments have affected the nature of cellular TV phone. Current cellular TV phone standards, usage, and issues will be discussed. The real tracking data, collected from server's logs from South Korean digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) providers, will be analyzed according to users' age group, peak viewing time of program, location usage, and program duration. 25: Words cannot even begin to express the amount of love that we have for you, dad. I don't know what we would have done without you. Yes, there were injuries, there were hurts, there were heartaches, yet there was tons of laughter, joyful moments, and sometimes it made us realize how lucky we are to have you as a father.
