4: 1950's: The 1950's brought upon the credit card, the satellite, the video recorder and tape to the world | It was the decade that witnessed the opening of the first Mc Donald's restaurant, watched Elvis Presley enter the charts with 'Heartbreak Hotel' and saw the first original Barbie.

5: The 1950s saw the invention of the "3-D" movie | Hon. Dudely Senanayake was the first Prime Minister of Sri- Lanka

6: 1960's: The Sixties saw the civil rights movement in the USA, Martin Luther King Jnr's famous 'I have a dream' speech and later his assassination, the construction of the Berlin wall, the Vietnam war and man's first step on the moon. It was also in the 1960s that the worlds first female Prime Minister, Mrs Sirimavo Bandaranaike was elected to government and baila music entered the mainstream of Sri lankan music.

7: In the mid-1960s, pop groups such as Los cabelleros led by Neville Fernando, The La Bambas, The Humming Birds and Los Muchachos; all of whom played calypso-style baila became popular in Sri Lanka.

8: 1970's: It was the decade that saw the end of the Vietnam war and witnessed the development of women's rights | 1970's: The 1970's was also known as the digital revolution, it saw the beginning of the home computer. 9: It was in the 1970's that Ceylon was renamed to Sri Lanka | The 1970's was also known as the digital revolution and saw the humble beginnings of the home computer.

19: 1983 - 1985 were spent in the sunny Caribbean, playing cricket, listening to reggae and of course, teaching at the Colleges.

26: Australia... | 1990s | The Perera family arrived in Australia amidst the economic recession of the early 1990s. Unemployment rates increased significantly and the Perera family knew that there would be difficult times ahead | We moved into a humble 2 bedroom unit in Dandenong and purchased our very own beloved car, a bright green Gemini.

27: Australia was led by a labour government in in the early 90s. The Perera family often became involved in the labour campaigns in support of their friend. The early 90s also saw the release of Nelson Mandela and the dismantling of the Apartheid regime in South Africa. The Perera family traveled widely across Victoria and enjoyed the dramatic growth of the world wide web. In 1996, Sri lanka won the International cricket world cup defeating Australia in the finals.

40: 2001 - Move to Canberra

41: In 2001,the Perera family left Theeka behind and moved to the country's capital, Canberra in search of greener pastures.

42: Theeka's 21st Birthday
