I was two days old. It was time to eat. Dad was sitting in his chair in the living room. Mom scooped me up, grabbed a bottle and a burp rag and stepped into dad's line of sight. She handed me to him and said, "I'm going down to visit Monetta. Here, I'll be back in an hour or so." Even I could see the dumbfounded look on dad's face. But obviously, everything went well.

It was 1983, I think. Elizabeth was 14 years old and I wasn't sure she would see 15. A young boy came to visit or pick her up, I don't remember which. He came to the door and when I opened it I thought he was going to turn and run when he saw me. No, he didn't know who I was. It must have been the 54cal Hawkin Rifle that gave him a start. I just happened to be cleaning the rifle and carried it to the door. I had just returned from a shooting match and I think I still had my Elk Skin breeches on, too. It must have been a hell of a sight. This particular boy didn't last long. I don't know why????? Dad

1987 | And you were worried!

It was high school, the time period when it seemed Elizabeth didn't really like me much, so it was a rare treat when she invited me to go off campus with her for lunch. We'd sit in her Bug under the giant oak near the Talking Bear, eating taquitos and drinking chocolate chip chocolate shakes from Marty's, and listening to the Judas Priest cassette, Turbo Lover. Nothing ever tasted better than those meals with my sister. Melissa

 1990

1991 | Work with me people!! | Focus!!

 1992 | On a rooftop in Phoenix...

Sitting here thinking of that day in December, And it's funny how easily I remember. Walking into the classroom on that early morning, Not knowing what to expect, there was no warning. Dressed all in earth tones looking quite prim and proper, Who knew then that I was in for a whopper? As I made my way past your desk and tape player, I heard a faint sound, could that have been Slayer? I put my stuff down and made my way back, To listen more closely to the upcoming track. It was then that I realized the sound I was hearing, Flotsam and Jetsam, I was sure, as the speaker I was nearing. I looked up in surprise and mentioned their name, Your eyes got real big, and they lit up like flame. "You know them?" you asked, with voice quite amazed And I said that I had, with an eyebrow raised. From that day forward, for sixteen years We have shared our lives, both smiles and tears. And as we continue down this life's road, Just know that I love you, that is why I have written this ode. David

It seems like just yesterday – I paced the floor at 2 am with a screaming, colicky infant We spent all night sitting up in a chair while the humidifier sent water running down the walls trying to clear a croupy cough and avoid a tracheotomy Hiked up to Horton Meadows with Elizabeth sleeping in the backpack We chose a dress together for the first day of school Made trips to the emergency room when our own circus performer split her head, got mangled fingers and crazy broken arms straightened Put our fingers in our ears and pillows over our heads while drum practice was going on – the house seemed really small then Drove up and down River Road looking for the house with the red door Cheered really loud at graduation Trekked to Phoenix with baby Margo to see Melissa, talking about everything under the sun, all while going 80 miles an hour Worried and commiserated through family worries and crazy bosses and jobs Went to gigs for bands whose music made no sense just because it was Elizabeth playing the drums Through it all, I always knew I would always love you Mom
